I'm not a vegan or veg, but I would think it's hard to avoid all animal products 100% (like the clothes or boots or sleeping bags) but at least maybe they are trying to do better. They, over a span of 10 years, may be able to cut back on those products by 95% compared to another human who doesn't try a bit. That's something, I'd think. It would be annoying if they had a "better than you 'tude" about it, but if everyone cut back by even 50%, that's gotta make an impact.

So I remember doing some research about the Starbucks logo a while back, and I forgot until I seen press about this recently. Who wants to tell Donald Trump he's looking at a "cleaned up" version of a pagan image of a twin-tailed mermaid spreading her fins *ahem LEGS* with her tits out?

What I don't get is vegans who use animal product based gear/clothing, or limit their veganism to the food they eat. In the outdoor community, there are a lot of vegans. But I have not met a single one who refuses to use gear that has animal parts- like down sleeping bags/jackets and boots with leather uppers. There have even been a lot of issues with sustainable and humane wool production in higher end gear/clothing. But then again, sticking to synthetics is pretty difficult when you want the best gear.

I eat a plant based diet, and I don't have any issues being gassy. What makes you think roots, vegetables and grains makes people more gassy than meat and cheese?

Just stumbled onto a news story about Jared Fogle. I can't even describe the rage and disgust I'm feeling. And the story said he is only getting 12.5 years.

If everyone only ate roots, vegetables and grains, the world would have a serious problem with the intestinal gas produced and expelled, clogging the air, being breathed, etc. But then, we wouldn't be raising farm animals that expel gas, so maybe it would come out even.

There's a local farm where I can get beef, another one where I can get chickens. I can go there, see the farms, and buy the food. And these are good places, pastures and true free range. Thing is, I haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I really need to. Now I feel guilty for buying meat at the grocery store. But it's really expensive to get an entire cow, even half a cow is around $1500- all processed and ready for your chest freezer. The chickens you can only get certain times of the year. I really need to call the farms and get more info.

I bet most of these folks who are so horrified by the treatment of farm animals buy clothes made by kids in sweat shops.

Ever watched a video of a factory farm? It isn't just the farm itself, the humans who work there tend to be exceptionally cruel. As if the animals aren't already terrified, the people handling them are fucking brutal and unnecessarily cruel. People eat meat. They just do. I grew up in the country and many large farms do not treat their animals with cruelty, even though they are being raised for food. I don't think animals need to be treated in a cruel manner just to save a buck. Greed makes people evil though.
