Think about it like this - millions of children, people, will be killed if we do not allow them to safely reside in this country. We do have enough resources, we do have enough space, we do have enough anything when the alternative is death. The vetting process for refugees is long and arduous and it often takes years. There is no stone left unturned when dealing with the complex web of terrorist networks. A terrorist would be unlikely to use the refugee method to travel to the United States. It would take too long. It would be easier to get into the country as a radicalized citizen of Europe or across the border from Mexico. There's an even higher chance that terrorists are already here.

Not taking in refugees has little to do with thinking we are better than others. It has to do with what is in the US's national interest. We should always reach out to help others, but not when it could lead to destruction of our country by admitting those who want to destroy it. There is no sure way to keep out jihadists who come in with fake Syrian passports, and they can buy perfect ones for $2000 (reported on PBS News). Think of it like this - if the United States is brought down, and it no longer has wealth and the military means to protect itself and other smaller countries like we now protect, there is no one else to help on the scale that we do. No other democracy can do what we do. And we sure as hell want a democracy doing it, not China or Russia and their allies.

You can hate other people for not doing what you want, and you can spout off about it all you want, but how would it benefit you and yours if the U.S. loses all its allies? You'd go down with all the rest of us. Unless of course some other country would take you in as a refugee.

I am depressed, I read about stuff in the news but I can't seem to avoid it. Mothers leave their kids alone and they do things... 8 year old beats his toddler sister to death. Now a kid put his toddler sister in the oven and baked her to death. WTF is wrong with people? His mother preferred to go out with her boyfriend. God I hate people, and these women who think this behavior is OK? Why are people so effing stupid and awful? And the fathers who just aren't in the picture. I can't tell you how this angers me so much.

I wonder about all the countries not helping the refugees... why are they off the hook? Why is no one trashing them or accusing them of being selfish assholes? Oh no reason I'm sure except I'm a selfish asshole for even asking or thinking it, right?

So if America is the only country not helping refugees we look like total degenerate assholes and I hope we lose all of our allies. This country is not safe from everything and if one day we should need aid or assistance II hope those countries don't turn us away out of spite. It all comes down to people thinking they are better than others. You're not so perfect here that you'll never need a helping hand. If its ever on such an atrocity as war and possible extermination you remember how you thought leaving others to die was okay and how other countries could just take care of it

I believe there are options about Syrian refugees that would provide a humanitarian solution but not require them to settle in the US. We could provide aid and care but settle them elsewhere. I've had experience with foreigners coming to the US and trying to also university). Some of them hated it, resented the charity help they received, and went home ASAP. Others acclimated but not without a lot of emotional suffering. They expected everything to be perfect here, streets paved with gold, and acceptance. When it didn't happen, they were angry because their hopes were dashed. We need to think beyond the actual resettlement to the problems that will be engendered by it.

Sometimes I think there's just no solution... I'm trying to be optimistic, but is anything ever going to get better? Sometimes its just so hard for me to keep my head above water.

I used to be really ignorant and racist, like white power go back to your home company. And then I grew up and learned compassion. I mean, America was stolen from the natives with the idea that life should be better than it is. So I think refugees and migrants should all be allowed to legally take refuge and residence here in an effort to improve their lives.

I get really mad/sad when someone says they don't want the Syrian refugees here or they don't think they should be allowed to come here. So you'd rather them be killed? Because there is no other option. They need help.
