So the tarot cards I got in lieu of cash, they were sort of a gift, right? No one else owned them, at least. Besides the retailer. I dunno, I'm so confused.

In response to a confession. Well if they belonged to someone else, what I'd do is smudge them with a sage stick to get rid of any energies attached to them. (I also do this with things I buy from yard sales or antiques stores, as well as library books.) Sleep with them under your pillow for a few days so they can connect to your energy.

If you're going to use the cards, or even if you're not, I suppose, you should cleanse them. It isn't hard to do. Just Google tarot card cleansing. It usually involves salt, incense, a crystal or two, and a little focus. It just helps clear any energy that might be attached to them. Also, on the subject of being gifted cards, I've only been gifted one set, and I own several decks. I actually don't like other people to even touch my cards, let alone own them. I'm a spiritual control freak, I guess, lol.

In response to a confession. Well, I didn't buy DH did and gave them to me. So that's a good start, I guess. I like that they're mysterious...I don't know about the person who had them before. They seem to be fairly detailed, but I have nothing to compare them to, I guess. I will do a little researching and see what I can find. I am quite curious about them.

I started reading tarot when I was a kid and was taught by my mom and aunt. I also remember getting books from the library. I bet there's YouTube videos on the basics.

In response to a confession. Learning the Tarot is a long process, to be honest. You can get a basic understanding of it with a book called The Tarot Bible by Sarah Bartlett. But if you are really invested in learning, there is a free online course at . It's very in depth. The key to being able to understand the cards is to choose ones that have a lot of detail in the pictures, rather than just ones that say which card it is with a basic picture. The more descriptive the pictures, the easier it will be to interpret the messages. Now technically, you are not supposed to buy them for yourself; they're supposed to be a gift. When I buy a new deck, I "gift" them to someone who "gifts" them right back to me :) Keep a journal with each card and each reading, for future reference. Also, I've never found the Tarot (or pendulum) to be wrong.

I got a pack of tarot cards in a box of stuff from an estate sale. I admit...I have no clue as to what they mean or what to do with them. I would sort of like to learn to read them, but I don't know how I feel about trusting a deck of cards with telling the future.

I would like suggestions and tips and maybe book or website recommendations for reading tarot for the absolute beginner. Anybody? Bueller?

In response to a confession. Yes to all three. It was almost 5 years ago that I felt some kind of weird push to explore other spiritualities (raised Catholic). A friend of a friend had showed me some of her crystals and explained them to me, which I later told dh about. That weekend he went to the library and came back with a book about healing crystals. I've now collected hundreds of them and use them for many things, including healing. That naturally led to Oracle cards, meditation, spirit guides, pendulums, etc. When I started all of this I also started getting into the LoA (which dh had told me about years before, but I brushed off) and dang if I wasn't able to manifest pretty much everything I wanted. It was truly crazy.

I read tarot, meditate, chat with my spirit guides, all that awesome hippy-dippy, witch-life stuff. All the women in my family are like that, too.
