In response to a confession. Nope, this wasn't mine--my DNR job interview is next week. I'm still nervous for it and I really hope it goes well!!

In response to a confession. This is happening in my family. For over 30 years my uncle and aunt built a life together. They did everything right - had great jobs (200K+ combined), bought a house, had kids, bought investment properties, a vacation home, etc. Early in their marriage they bought a piece of land in their favorite place, where they were going to build their dream home when they retired. They were supposed to retire next year. Last year he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He's had surgery, but it keeps growing back. We're not sure how much time he has left :(

A random person just walked into my office and asked if he had an appointment with me at 2pm. Uh, no. Weird.

FYI Party people: The IRS has granted another day to file your tax returns. This is due to problems on their end with issues relating to system outages. Thought you ought to know. ;)

So I had this great interview for an internship with the county as a conservation tech and they told me they would be done interviewing people last week. This morning, I got an email from the manager I'd be reporting to and he said they are doing MORE interviews yet this week. I'm pissed. I thought they had all the applicants they were going to take and now that means there is just that much more competition.

I have this client. He worked all his life building a business, and last year he sold it for almost 2 million dollars, and retired. His wife is set to retire this spring. I just found out he's been diagnosed with a large, malignant brain tumor. And it's moving fast, he's already in the hospital, not ever likely to leave. He won't even make it to his wife's retirement, let alone all the things they had planned to do together. This is just awful. He's in and out of consciousness, and what is he mumbling about in his moments of partial clarity? His tax return. Jesus. He's such a nice guy, this is just the worst.

If I were the office manager I would have given direct and to the point email as well. They don't have time to coddle someone who clearly doesn't fit the description of what they are looking for in an employee. If your BF needs someone to coddle him for his failure to follow directions, I wouldn't want him as an employee either.

AHAAAHHHH!!!! I just got a call from the DNR! They want me to come in for an interview! The job isn't even posted on the state website--I found out about it from a faculty advisory board meeting and a professor from another university knew the DNR person in charge of the position, so she gave me her email and told me to ask about the job. So she called me today and asked me to interview for it!! I would be doing wastewater permits and compliance---and if I find any non-compliance issues, I get to give out tickets! Man, how awesome would this be???

In response to a confession. Here's overboard (no pun intended) for ya. I was in the Navy. There were people who actually failed boot camp and got discharged for simply not being able to fold their clothes the exact way we were supposed to. The reason was, if you can't follow instructions well enough to fold a shirt, how will you be able to learn how to wire a ship? Land an incoming plane? Load ordinance? Follow the battle plan? Et. al. Attention to detail to the max. (Though I once had a boss who asked if I thought being in the military was why I couldn't think outside the box. Yes, it was. You tell me to do something, I do it - no more, no less. It took a while to get out of the "our lives are on the line" mentality and improvise if need be.)
