Oh, how I don't care. I don't want to hear about your vacations. You don't realize that every time you give me a raise they take all of it and more in student loan payments. I will never, ever, ever get ahead. I will owe student loan money until I'm dead. I will probably be working until I'm dead. I know, I know. Not your problem and you don't want to hear about it. Likewise, I don't want to hear about your fancy vacations or the fact that all three of your small children have their own laptops and ipads and iphones and shit. Please shut up. The resentment and jealousy feels like it's physically crushing me.

In response to a confession. I just went thru this myself. Small companies tend to fire the bullying victim when they complain. My boss was bullying me and I went to higher management- no HR in this small company. They briefly had me work in another dept, then I was let go with no explanation. Please look for another job before YOU end up unemployed.

I'm also dealing with a bully at work and I work for a small company. I brought it to my boss and she claims I am being too emotional. Honestly, I've been trying to just document incidents where he's being a bully. He's gotten better lately, but I will continue to document and if it gets bad, I'm going to look for a different job. No job is worth sacrificing your sanity for.

In response to a confession. I used to work for a very well-known, global company. We had a very strict call-out policy. Three "sick" incidents in a year would get you a write up and on probation. Any calls outs during probation would result in termination. That being said, I had a coworker who was approved to take FMLA for her chronic sinus infections due to the nature of our job. She didn't abuse it, but she did end up getting fired when she went on a short trip to a third-world country with friends on her days off, and got sick and couldn't fly home in time for work. The company accused her of lying so she could stay - alone - in this country a few more days.

I can't tell anyone IRL but DH's department head is possibly moving out of state, and that would put DH in a perfect position to head the entire department. He's the next in the hierarchy, and when the department head went on vacation last month they had a major issue come up while he was gone and DH absolutely nailed it and everyone was really impressed. I'm really hopeful!!!!

In response to a confession. I'm glad you reported her. Going over your manager's head is the only way the company will deal with the bully. I was in a similar situation a few years ago. Just keep documenting and report everything you can.

In response to a confession. Thank you. It is a very small company, but it's a franchise of a large name. 5 employees plus the GM to rotate 3 shifts (1 person 1st, 2 ppl 2nd, 1 person 3rd), 7 days a week, we all end up with over time.) I spoke with the owner today for a long time. He's upset that the GM never told him about my previous complaints. He promised they'll make it work so that I don't work with the bully coworker. He must have laid into the GM about everything cuz she called me up with anger in her voice saying I can come back to work tomorrow (bully and I weren't allowed to work until owner is done investigating) and complaining how hard this will be on her that she has to figure out how to do the schedule. I don't feel sorry for her. Had she done something any of the times I told her about the bullying, it wouldn't have gone this far. But I'm sure the GM will look for any reason to fire me after she trains a new person. I've spent yesterday and today applying to jobs online.
