My niece makes more money as a waitress than she does at her day job as an advocate for inner city victims of sexual assault.

So the new server job: holy shit, man... I think it must just be a fact of life that anywhere that you have a group of three or more women in one place there is gonna be shit-talking behind someone's back. It must just be the way the world works. I had forgotten what that's like. I never waited tables before, but I was a CNA for eight years in nursing homes and it was basically the same. The shit-talking... wow. And I put together a spreadsheet to show exactly how much I'm making per hour by shift and seriously- this might just not be worth it. About a third of what my hourly average is at my 'real' job. BUT- I'm still new at this so that might change. I'm not throwing in the towel (apron?). Yet. It's still early in the season and I'm still very very new. The money might get better. We'll see.

It's my day off and I'm going to be applying for other jobs. I get to do all the bosses work since I'm there when she is not. I work 3 week days and every weekend. She does not train people on her side. Every weekend I get pulled to her side to fix problems the untrained staff screws up. Every weekend I am late getting my work done as a result. Now she's (boss) is yelling at me. If I don't help them I get yelled at. I do and I get yelled at. The General manager isn't a asshole. When I leave he'll be screwed over. I do all the paperwork, things the boss legally can't do. So he gets all my work until he finds someone else. The boss can not work on my side she's a felon. I love my job, customers but I hate the environment. We are 3 businesses in one building. One business is State/federally regulated.(My side) I'm done with the cluster fuck that is her side. How I did it for 4.5 years is beyond me. It's time to move on.

In response to a confession. Aaaaaand the egomaniacal bitch doctor I was working with yesterday took my candy. All of it. I got one piece. The patient, who she has never even treated before, gave the candy to ME to take home to my family. Good reminder of why I'm leaving.

IT'S SUMMER!!! I am changing schools, so I spent two days moving out all my things, but today I slept until 8:30 AND IT WAS AMAZING! I am doing some professional development, going to a conference, and working a part time job but OMG I am so happy! This year was rough, and I'm glad it's over.

My mouth keeps getting me in trouble. I am apparently at a level now where I need to think more about decorum, and it is f***ing irritating.

In response to a confession. I still send cards, though I fear it may be a dying custom. Some of my own friends and family send e-cards or texts for birthdays, etc. But I still put a stamp on it and walk it to the mailbox. I regularly send a friend cards just to say hello, and she says they’re the highlight of her days. I know that your card brought some comfort to him/her.

In response to a confession. I think the card was lovely and appropriate. I know we sometimes get it in our heads and imagine bad scenarios when we try to express sympathy. I think it is almost always appreciated.

I just heard news that a student of mine from several years ago has lost a parent. I sent a sympathy card. I hope that isn't overstepping. I feel for the family.

I really don't want to spend my only night off socializing with DH's sister and her husband and their kids. I really, really don't. But I will. They're leaving tomorrow and I probably won't see them for a year. So yeah, I should soak up some time with those babies while I can. Okay, maybe it won't be so bad.
