I am a college professor of math, and here is my perspective on the IQ issue: I believe very strongly that intelligence, while it does not guarantee success, is a very important factor. I have seen students in the classes I teach with high or normal intelligence who only need to put in a reasonable amount of work to succeed, and I have seen students lacking in intelligence who had to put in monumental amounts of effort to just barely pass the class. Anybody who is smart enough to realize how little effort is required (compared to what others need to do) would be plain stupid to not put in the effort (I am not saying it doesn't happen, but it is very uncommon in my experience). Also you are more likely to have motivation to study something that you understand to begin with than something that is totally unintelligible. Of course I speak only from an academic standpoint, I realize that real life is more complex than that.

"Stupid bitch" I can't think of anything else more synonymous with the culture of domestic violence against women than those two words. Where are you sanctimonious assholes now? Op who misspelled "ho", you are NOT a stupid bitch. I can think of endless other things more detrimental to a kid's well being, than telling them to not dress like a hooker.

What's the point of confessing on this site anymore? You say something stupid (I don't like men with beards. I don't like weak handshakes. ETC.) and people call you evil, judgmental, etc. So annoying.

I just want to be normal?!! Mentally, I'm nuts. Anxiety, paranoia, short and long term memory issues (from meds for migraines and occipital neuralgia). Physically, I'm hurting EVERYWHERE. Carpal tunnel, shoulder pain, back and neck pain, tension, headaches... I just want to be fixed. And my husband is so tired of me being broken all the time. I don't want to be on meds, I want to be okay.... My mom thinks I have fibromyalgia. I don't know what to think.

S/O of topic over on the pop culture board; for some reason I think almost everyone is good looking in some way. I rarely meet people who I look at and think ugly. When I think someone is ugly it's usually because of how they've acted towards me (rude, mean, condescending, snotty), not how they actually look. It actually bothers me, like hurts me, when people are harsh, judgemental and cruel about other people's looks.

I know there are mental illnesses that you are born with but I believe a lot are from screwed up parenting.

I just read the transcribed rant of that fool who killed all those people by UCSB on Friday. No, I don't think this is a mental health issue or even a "bullied" person finally cracking...I think this is just a piece of shit human being who thought he was just so entitled he couldn't stand rejection. People with real mental problems should be insulted they are lumped with people like these.

Unfortunately, people with mental illnesses don't always believe or know that anything is wrong with them. So they're not going to remain childless. Then they produce more people who have the illness, maybe. Not good.

I don't thin people with bipolar, schizophrenia or other severe mental illness should have kids.

All I meant was that if one of the Duggar kids is gay, he/she wouldn't be able to be their true selves-you know, gay! Their religion prohibits and oppresses the gays. And I do believe they are instilled fear of their parents and God. so with that said, yes, that would be a miserable way to live your true life if you can't truly be who you are (gay) all in the name of God. I didn't speak about reprogramming camp, but I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that. They are very disciplined family and they must present themselves in a certain way because their religious beliefs pretty much dictate so. Their lifestyle certainly is intriguing and I sure the heck ain't jealous. But when you won't/can't let your kids be gay, that is wrong. Why would you make your child feel bad about who he/she naturally loves? Granted, this is a "what if" scenario..but it happens all the time with families that have such hard core Christian fundamentalist beliefs. Westboro Church anyone?? Let's pray the gay away!!
