I think Pence is a royal idiot. But I think that the Republicans must love him because they know he'll just do whatever they want. That's part of why I'm sort of scared of this whole administration. It's a bunch of rich CEOs-turned-politicians that are going to run this country into the ground. All under the guise of being good Christians by keeping the nation "Christian" and not killing babies. Because, well, all Democrats are just baby-killing sinners, right?

I saw something recently that said, "If Donald Trump is the face of every rapist, Mike Pence is the face of every judge who let them walk." Truer words have never been spoken. Y'all better actually pray that nothing happens to Mr. Tinyhands because Mike Pence is a bible thumping, woman hating, gay converting, "good" Christian. I'd rather deal with a narcissist than a religious zealot.

OMG, has anyone seen that idiotic "open letter" to Trump opposers written by that preacher? My MIL shared it on FB and it is such a load of horse hockey. He says DT is "a bit rough around the edges, but he's a good Christian man" and "despite some un-presidential tweets, he's a good leader". Such bullshit. And how Obama had this pro-abortion, pro-gay agenda....honestly, the amount of BS that is floating around out there just blows my mind. DT is not just "un-presidential"...he's a sociopath and a narcissist. End of story.

You need to find a better church. There are plenty of Christians who aren't backstabbing jerks.

I'm the OP with the gay cousin. FWIW, I'm also a Christian and was raised that way, but my family and I have all gone to different churches than the type of church we were raised in. Most of the people in that church were really judgmental and hateful, like my aunt and uncle. They hated anyone who didn't grow up "churched". As an adult, it took me a long time to find a church where I felt at home and where I didn't feel like people judged me for my political views, my past, and my lifestyle choices. It's really amazing to see how very different Christians can be. My aunt and uncle happen to belong to a certain denomination where you are supposed to have a ton of kids and being gay is a horrible sin.

I was raised by some God-fearing Christians (eye roll) and I finally had to turn my back on their so-called "religion". There was so much judgment in my house growing up. If you didn't fit the very narrow script they had for you, you were an outcast. The worst is how they really felt that everyone in the United States should be a Christian, that this is what our country was founded on. Then I started growing up and I learned some real history. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our founding fathers were some of the least religious people you could ever meet. The last thing they wanted for a country was to be shackled by narrowminded, bigoted religious viewpoints. I do still believe in Jesus and I do believe in the principles he taught but I will no longer be a part of organized religions. They are toxic to the human soul.

The number one thing that keeps me away from Christianity is Christians. I just can't handle the judgment and condemnation. Every time I think I've met a cool, open-minded Christian, they always disappoint me. And I'm sure some of y'all are thinking that everyone is judgemental at some point, and that's true to an extent, but I've met some wonderful people of other faiths who aren't like that at all. Maybe it's just my dumb luck that the people who've treated me badly have done so while proudly proclaiming to be Christian. I forgive them because that's their path to walk, but I certainly don't want to join them.

I'm a Christian and I don't hate anyone. Please don't lump us all in the same group. Christianity is about love.
