In the South our children go to schools that are sometimes far from their homes. Schoolbuses can't get through the icy roads and snow that isn't plowed because we aren't equipped with snowplows. So that's why things shut down here for winter weather.

My state suspends some things when there's snow and ice because winter weather is so unusual here. Winter only lasts 6 weeks or so and a temp that will create snow and ice is unlikely. We live in the South where daffodils are usually up by Valentine's Day. We know northerners think we're stupid but while you're trying to find your cars under snowdrifts, we're heading for the beach.

I am going to the beach tomorrow. South Florida sucks balls in the summer but it is great in January.

my husband has lived in this city for at least 16 years. 4 years longer than i have. for the love of all that is holy, why does he still not know his way around? whenever we're in the car together and he's driving he always asks for directions. these are roads we traverse all the time in our daily lives. we took a road north to go somewhere and when we were getting ready to leave he asks if we should go north or south to get home. for fuck's sake, seriously???

China needs to be provoked. They've been provoking us for eight years. Just take a look at those islands in the South China seas where they built military fortifications and seem to have put missiles. What do you think, this is Legos or something? They've got a bead on us, South Korea, the Philippines, and who knows what else. They are not nice people. I lived with them for 2 years. Bunch of duplicitous assholes and Marxist to boot.

I am thinking of going to Detroit for their nein rouge. Any Detroit people who can tell me about festival/parade/other Detroit stuff to do? What foods should I try while I am there? I am a lifelong South Florida resident, what kind of coat do i need in March?

Once last week, and now today, my BFF (in the South and who has DirecTV) has told me that she can't get Fox News. All of the other channels are fine, but the Fox channel is blank.

I spent the first 20 years of my life in the North. I've spent the last 20 years in the South. From my experience, people up North are actually much nicer than those from the South. Southerners may be more polite, but that sure as heck isn't the same as being nice. They will bring you a casserole, but then talk about you behind your back and about every flaw you have. They just seem much more shallow. Sure, they may back you some cookies, but they are only doing it for appearances, not because they actually want to. Northerners bake cookies and casseroles too, and when they do, it's because they genuinely, truly care about someone and their well-being, not just because they are worried about what people would say about them if they didn't.
