Omg male engineers. I'm a nurse and we always joke that male engineers are the some of the worst patients. They think they know how to fix everything, including their own bodies and medical equipment. They also tend to talk down to freaking everyone. I can spot an engineer from a mile away, lol.

Dh and I had a dd. He wanted a ds the 2nd time around as he knew that would be our last child. We had a ds, but everything changed between me and dh. His snoring bothered me so I moved out of our room. I nursed ds for 9 months too and it made it easier to just be in there with him. Our ds is 17 and we just had our 1st real conversation last night about his erectile dysfunction, drinking, us trying to fix things etc.... He said he gained a son and lost a wife. :( Knife through heart moment.

Do you have any idea how many human beings require hormone therapy? I'm just a simple nurse, and certainly no expert on the military, but are you telling me that every single female member of the US military isn't on oral contraceptives for birth control, endometriosis, heavy periods, or whatever? Fucking please... Trans people are being discriminated against because they're TRANS. Any argument about medical needs is total, absolute bullshit. Every human on the planet requires some form of medical care of varying degrees. If they pass the physical and psych eval, let them serve. If you don't want them in the military, YOU need to deal with the fact that you're a bigot. Don't pretend to know jack shit about medicine, because to people who know their shit, you sound like a [deleted].

And that was a lot of money back then! I've mentioned this here before, but when I had my son 16 years ago, my insurance was so good that all I had to pay was $35 - just the first visit to the OB. All of my other visits were paid for, as well as L & D, two nights in the hospital and a visiting infant nurse for two weeks.

I've had near death experiences as a kid and I led to me becoming a nurse. I've had patients with actual death experiences, meaning they technically were dead for a certain period. Their experiences mirrored mine. If you don't believe energy and consciousness can travel to other realms, you are certainly within your right to believe, but it's a very narrow type of thinking. We hardly even understand the energy an atom contains and are only very barely beginning to understand the human brain. I believe in an afterlife existence. I'm not religious at all.

Dh and I have been having interesting conversations lately about how money can change the power dynamic in a relationship. He makes a lot of money. I've been a full time student for two years and last year I made $7,000. He's always made a lot lot lot more than me and even when I start my career in September as a surgical nurse he still will, but I will finally be making a high living wage. Like, if say, he did something awful like hit me or called me fat or killed one of my pets, I could leave without a backwards glance without sacrificing my standard of living. I've always felt like he thinks he gets to make the executive decisions and has veto power when it comes to financial decisions. I stand my ground and don't let him second guess me, but I wonder if he'll quit even trying to do that when he knows that I'm more financially involved? I ask him and he says no, he'll always be a micromanager, but hmmm, I wonder.

Freaking out because I had my first ever abnormal pap. I did have BV at the time of the pap, but the nurse said that probably wouldn't make a difference in the results. I tested negative for hpv. I've been with one man for 15 years so no stds. I have to get retested in 6 months. The gyn office said nothing to freak out about, and it's super common but in 25 years of yearly pap smears, this is my first time with abnormal results. When I called the office, they said the inflammation on cervix from bv was probably why, but that isn't what nurse said during the pap. Scared and confused!

I remember when health insurance was good - like when my entire pregnancy, delivery, three nights in the hospital and a visiting baby nurse for two weeks cost a whopping $35. Now it's insane. We have pretty good insurance through dh's work. Dh had to have blood work and an MRI this year. Copays and out-of-pocket set us back about $2000. Exams and glasses for both of us - $600. A crown for me - over $700. I need another crown, one molar pulled, and another molar just chipped. I've always been afraid of the dentist; now I'm afraid for a different reason.

Just found out my ds hasn't been getting over his croup BC either the doctor's office didn't call in his prescription correctly, or the pharmacy didn't fill it correctly. I'll never know since I wasn't given a physical copy of the script. I'm so angry. The nurse blew me off like I shouldn't be concerned, and the pharmacy didn't even try to apologize. What if they had overdosed him instead of under dosing? What if they had given him a completely wrong medication? I wouldn't have known because i don't have a medical or pharmaceutical degree. I will be doing much more of my own research from now on and insisting on physical scripts. What is with people not caring about the job they are being paid to do properly?

It isn't unusual for military personnel to keep their mouths shut about the president. My friend's son served in the military under Bush after 9/11. He's a nurse and part of his job was providing counseling for combat stress in Afghanistan. He never said a word about the president while he was deployed, but afterward... ooh boy. He despised the Bush administration. He said most of the guys he counseled who were suicidal or homicidal hated Bush, too. But if they spoke out against their commander in chief they could be court marshalled.
