I just got an invite from a site called Meal Train. Friends and family of new parents can use it to organize meal drop-offs from people who want to help out. That's great I guess, except the co-worker who is due it is not particularly nice to me. I wasn't invited to the shower. Any time I ask how she's feeing or tell her she looks great, she grimaces. The "invitation" goes into detail about the fact that they are vegan and have various other dietary restrictions. I've seen how she is in a restaurant. No way I'm cooking for her! Also, NOWHERE IN THE EMAIL DOES IT SAY PLEASE OR THANK YOU.

I told DH I’d be much more in the mood for sex if I did the room like a boutique hotel. So I did what i wanted and he didn’t say a word. :) Also, regarding the saying nothing til you actually Started-I tell him (not just regarding decor but restaurants and everything): you forfeited your chance to vote so you forfeited your right to complain.

I live in a city that everyone thinks is a hellhole, but it is amazing. We are known for murders, basically. Crime. Drugs. My neighborhood is known as a "bad" neighborhood. Nothing bad has happened to me in 20 years of living here. The people are great. My son has received a good education in the schools. I never feel unsafe. The city I grew up in is known as the safest city in the state, with the best schools, but I love it here. Statistics don't tell the whole story, and neither do news articles. What matters is this- are you happy? My city has art, culture, great restaurants, diversity, and tons of things to do. Most of all it has great people. I love it here. I wouldn't go back to the 'burbs for anything!

I talked about this years ago on Truu. I went to a birthday dinner at a classy restaurant for a friend. She invited a few friends. I bought her a present and planned to pay for her meal. We were there a couple hours. One of her friends did MLM for a few companies. The entire time, all this woman did was talk about how much money she made, what trips & nice things she was able to buy with the MLM money, passed out catalogs,& how she was opening a small store just to sell her MLM. When she gave our friend her birthday gift, it was gift bag full of her catalogs, and told her to look through them and let her know what purchases she wants to make. Then she acted like a hero and whipped out a credit card to pay for the birthday girls meal. Any time we tried to change the subject, this woman would find a way to talk about selling her crap. She even gave us sheets and pens so we could order while we were at the table. I'm shocked the birthday girl didn't tell her to piss off.

I have a friend who is a vegan. She happens to be one of the obnoxious ones who shames everyone who isn't a vegan. Recently, she posted about how she couldn't figure out why her inlaws were mad at her---they were all going out to eat and my friend said they HAD to eat at an all-vegan restaurant. Her inlaws wanted to go somewhere else and her response to them was "It won't kill you to not eat dead animals for one meal". I think the more tactful thing to do would have been to go to a restaurant with vegan options so she could eat what she wanted and let her inlaws eat whatever they wanted. She does this kind of thing a lot and can't understand why people think she's one of "those" vegans.

My former stepson threw a toddler style tantrum in a restaurant when he was 11. The reason? He was not allowed to have a second dessert. My ex took him outside. He was screaming sitting on the ground, then began to slam his OWN head in the car door.

I really had to think about when the last time was that I had a case of the what ifs, and it was at a restaurant. After some self-reflection, I realized that restaurants are the only places where I think, what if? What if I had gotten the sausage roll instead of the pasta? What if the burger was better than the pizza I ordered? Food regret > relationships, apparently, lol.

Who cares if people smoke? I mean, I get it. Chain smokers smell. I work with cardiac patients all day and some of them smell like ashtrays. At the end of the day, though, it's their body. Nobody is 100% heathy. Crappy diets and lack of exercise kills people and adds to insurance costs, too. I'm curious about where some of you live. In my state (Bumfuck, Midwest), smoking is outlawed inside businesses and restaurants. The only smokers who piss me off are the ones who do things like smoke in the car with their kids, with the windows up.

It all comes down to the parents! Ds was great in restaurants from a young age. But once when he was 2, I was mortified that he was trying to crawl on the table and getting mad that I wouldn't let him. I didn't know where it was coming from. Found out that his grandparents let him crawl on the table at their house! Put an end to that! Then there's SS, who was raised mainly by his mom since dh was deployed often and then divorced when SS was 8. The summer he was 18 he came to stay for a while, and we went out to a nice pizza place. Holy shit. He was blowing straw wrappers at us, crumpling the paper and sticking it in the wall, sticking his finger in the water glass and running it around the rim - making a high-pitched noise - and hanging spoons on his nose, while I & my then-11yo sat incredulous. Dh took him outside and went off on him.
