I know some of you ladies have to have Kitchenaid stand mixers. I'm on the market for one, but I'm conflicted on which to get. There are mixers with glass bowls and mixers with the metal looking bowls. Which do you guys have/recommend? I heard of some of the metal ones flaking and pieces of metal get into the food. I also see some with the bottom of the bowl sitting on the mixer, and others where they are hooked on and look like they're floating...Which do you prefer? Any advice? Thank you in advance.

When my husband cooks, it's amazing. Not just the food, but how he cleans up as he goes. Every pot, pan, dish and utensil is washed as soon as it's no longer needed, dried and put away. The kitchen is completely clean by the time dinner is on the table. Me? It looks like a bomb hit the place, there's shit all over. I WISH I could do what he does. Still working on it!

I collect Calico Critters and they live on a shelf in my kitchen and living room. I have a chihuahua and squirrel family. I have a whole shelf in the dining room of Star Wars legos. I love to color and have my own colored pencils. I don't want to ever grow up. I'm 39.

Ooh, I would be real pissed about that. Can you just hold off on the kitchen until you're there? We redid our kitchen a few years ago and I was ultra controlling, lol. But you know what? I'm the main cook in our house and I wanted everything to be the way I wanted. My husband, bless his little pea pickin' heart, just didn't know squat about the kitchen of my dreams, and let me take over the remodel. Don't give in, op! Get what you want!

I am SO pissed. We are designing a kitchen (DH and I), long distance. He just sent me the layout the useless IKEA guy proposed and I HATE it - you can't even imagine. SO pissed. And the "help" from this guy was useless WTF. hate hate hate our future fucking kitchen. Just like the bathroom was remodeled in a horrible way. Hate it all so pissed. He is insisting that we need the ikea dishwasher that will be "hidden" as a cabinet. (Dh is saying the IKEA guy is saying we MUST get their dishwasher) I don't want it hidden as a cabinet - I don't care if it shows. I don't want an Ikea dishwasher either. hate this.

No brushing of hair in the kitchen, no playing in the kitchen, return the damn scissors and tape where it came from, wash your hands when you come home, throw away your trash-recycle your recyclables. And the Mrs. Brady rule, don't play ball in the house.

No running or roughhousing in the house. No walking around eating things. Eat in the kitchen. No yelling from room to room, if you want to say something to someone, go to where they are. Hang up your towels. Show common courtesy to each other. Put away what you take out. No friends in the house when Mom or Pop aren't home. Age appropriate chores, like taking your own plate to the table, keeping your bathroom sink clean, walking the dog, feeding pets. No hitting.

Oh, lawd. My neighbor saw my boobs. I sleep naked and my dog normally wakes me up around 5 a.m. to pee. I usually wander to the kitchen and open the door for him to pee because no one is around and the door keeps me mostly hidden. Not today. My neighbor, a cute guy in his 30s, just happened to be outside taking his trash out. Long story short, my dog barked, I moved forward to call him back in, neighbor looked up, our eyes met, I covered my tits and ran back to my bedroom. I will now be donning a robe when my dogfriend has his morning pee. Blargh.

What are some house rules in your home that you think are really good rules and everyone should have them? For example, I have a no playing in the kitchen rule. No running, sword fight, sitting in the middle of the kitchen playing with legos/dolls. Nothing in the kitchen so one is ever tempted to run through while I am cooking. The second is no entering certain boundaries within the kitchen while I am cooking. This means no walking behind me if I am at the stove so there is never the problem with me turning around with a hot pan or knife and injuring someone. I cringe when at friends homes and their children run amuck behind them while cooking or allow their toddlers to sit at their feet with boiling water or hot oil. I have seen too many things almost happen that could have been severe or deadly.

I too, love the idea of a small home. We have a big 5-bedroom house and I'm just over it. I'm over the bigness of it, the space, the rooms we don't use because the kids are gone, the huge lawn....who needs it? I'm over stuff in bins and having storage. What's the point of having so much stuff? Way too much stuff. I want a small 2-bedroom cottage with a galley kitchen and lots of light. I want a little garden, nothing fancy. I'd love more peace and quiet. I don't want to look at neighbors. I want a minimalist lifestyle. Only buy what you need.
