"What if?" is so completely normal. Everything in life has this aspect. What if I ordered the fish? What if I picked the other paint color? What if I bought the other coat? Jesus. It's normal. What if you married your HS sweetheart? Yeah, what if? So what?

Guess I'm not understanding what you mean by "believe in Jesus". I believe he was a person on Earth, like I believe in other historical figures. But I don't believe that the bible is some sort of cosmic guidebook to get you to heaven or whatever. I don't believe in religion, any religion, as a moral compass to tell you how to live or what's going to happen to you after you die. I agree it's based on wishes, or more accurately I believe it's based on interpretations of actual events that are twisted to fit into their scenario. Or, just made up shit. The originators make shit up, the followers are the ones that make religion happen by believing the made up shit. I mean look at scientology. I don't believe that when people die, they're just dead though. I think we have a spirit, or energy, or whatever you wanna call it, that goes on.

I don't understand how a person can "believe in Jesus" and then just up and decide that the afterlife works the way that they personally want it to work. You either "believe in Jesus" and pay attention to the Bible or you don't. I can't understand how people can just decide that reality is the way that they wish it was. Heaven sounds great. Hell sounds bad. I'm pretty sure they are both just pretend. I'm an atheist, and it's nice that you believe I am going to heaven, but when people die they are just dead. If you talk to people who believe in Jesus, it's like everyone has their own personal idea of heaven. It's fantasy. It's based on nothing but wishes.

Yeah, Jesus was a living breathing dude. I believe that. I don't believe he was the son of God, and I don't believe there's a God that's gonna send you to hell. Or anybody to hell. I believe there's a place or space or spiritual plane or something after we die, but I don't believe in the proverbial heaven and hell concepts. And I don't believe there was any sort of immaculate conception. Splooge got up in there somehow.

I'm religious and I believe in Jesus. But I don't call myself a Christian. I think Jesus was a man, a real man, a flesh and blood man. I think he had a profound effect on society and shaped the world. That said, I think all people go to heaven, all religions and all atheists go to heaven. There is no point to hell. Would you send your own child to hell just because they believe differently than you? Of course. not. And don't you think God loves me as much as you love your child? Would you subject your own child to eternal suffering because they believed differently than you? What purpose would that serve? What's the purpose of being good ONLY to get into Heaven? Shouldn't being good be its own reward? Are people really being righteous if they are ONLY trying to avoid hell? That's pointless. So therefore, no I don't believe Jesus is my savior and that I needed him to die for my sins. I don't really believe in sin at all. I think it's an outdated concept.

When people say they "believe in Jesus" they are usually saying that they follow his teachings. I have never met anyone who doubted the existence of Jesus as a historical figure.
