OMG, my DH's cousin is a nurse and posted an article about vaccines. (She is pro-vaccine). All the crazies that are anti-vaccine crawled out of the woodwork and started spouting all kinds of crap that isn't even true about vaccines. I seriously don't understand why they insist that vaccines aren't effective against "mutating bacteria" (even though the main diseases they vaccinate for are viral) and have mercury in them (only flu shots have thimerosol and it's not a routine vaccine for children). And they all still think they cause autism. SMH.

Witnessed something interesting today. I went with a friend who needed an MRI. As we were waiting, a woman came in with her ds, about 13-14. As they were signing in, the nurse checked to be sure that the boy had not eaten in the previous 3 hours. The mom said no, he had eaten at school. The nurse said, "They DID tell you when you made the appointment that he had to fast for three hours, right?" Mom said, "Yes, but he wanted to eat." The nurse said sorry, they would have to reschedule the MRI. The mom was pissed! But not at her ds, at the staff. Apparently she had taken off work to bring her ds to the appointment. Hello?

Omfg... A woman I'm friends with on FB just posted a pic of her 8 y/o son with blood running out of his nose, onto his chest. He was crying really hard and looked like he was trying to avoid having his picture taken. She wrote that his nosebleed won't stop and his temp is 103. Then updated it to say that she wasn't worried anymore because now it's 101. Everyone is commenting to get him to the ER, and she's like, "Thanks for the prayers! He's still bleeding but he's fine." Quit being a fucking attention whore and take care of your kid!!!! And she's a fucking nurse!!! I just need to delete FB. I can't handle crap like this.

My mom has two bottles of Vicodin from two separate surgeries. She insisted she didn't want it but it was prescribed anyway. And wanting to follow her doctor's orders, she filled it. My mil was also prescribed Vicodin and gave it away to her friends, who hounded her for it. Doctors think nothing of giving opioids to sweet, little elderly patients. As a nurse, a big part of my job is spotting drug seekers, but the docs make it difficult sometimes. Many times, these pills end up in the wrong hands. So, yeah, the healthcare profession plays a huge part in the epidemic.

My DH came up behind me, and I thought he was coming on to me.. nope. He spread icy hot on one of my boobs. For one thing, what the actual fuck? For another- I'm breastfeeding, you moron!! I asked him how he would feel if somebody put icy hot on his dick and he said "I don't know, I'm sorry" and I told him I don't know how long it will be before I'm comfortable letting the baby nurse on that side. He asked if the baby couldn't just eat a little icy hot. I asked him if he would eat icy hot and he goes, "you're right, I didn't really think about it." Fucking moron. I dont know what is wrong with him lately! He's being such a dick!

Dh makes about 100K as a computer programer. I make about $175k as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. We live in Texas in a town of about 200,000 people. We live on 5 acres in a manufactured home. Mortgage is 1100/month. We've got 4 kiddos. DH drives a minivan, I drive a used civic. We just finished paying off about $250k in student loan debt. House and cars will be paid off this year. The kids all have healthy college funds. They're in a private school which is about 10k a year each. We all travel about once a year, and DH and I take a mini getaway every year. Lifes pretty good, but we worked hard to get here.

I'm a nurse in a republican state. Believe me when I say that LOADS of people who voted for Trump didn't realize their insurance was through Obamacare. Our patient load has doubled in the last month since people figured that out. They're scrambling to get their tests done before they lose their insurance. I'm not usually one to name call, but what a bunch of dumbasses. Just goes to show how people in America vote.

I had a bad day today with my newborn. There was no reason for him to cry-he was fed, warm, diapered, not sick but he went full ham. Every time he started to doze off, I put him down in his bassinet and five minutes later-he would start wailing again. I just got so frustrated I put him in his crib and closed the door but I felt horrible hearing him cry. My anxiety kicked off at full steam and my recurring fears of dying and cancer started up for no reason. I went back into the nursery with my laptop and put on music. He calmed down as I started doing a cardio-kickboxing routine on youtube. It felt good to get some control and just punch the shit out of the air, letting out my stress. Afterwards I was drenched, tired but better and the baby was his normal smile-y self again. I guess we both needed a minute.

It's not just WebMD either. My insurance offers a nurse phone line. I stepped on a rusty nail in my back yard after a recent renovation on a friday night. I'm up to date on my tetanus vaccine but the rn I spoke with told me I needed to seek immediate medical attention. Fortunately, there was an urgent care open for another 30 minutes so I rushed there, relaying what happened and what the nurse said. The doctor gave me antibiotics in case I got infected, said the nurse was dramatic and it could have waited for a visit with my primary.

Stupid, petty confession: I am hiding in the nursery crying because I worked really hard to make a Christmas dress and get the perfect outfits for the baby's first Christmas. I had started exercising and now the dress is 4 or 5 inches too big and I don't have any way to fix it for church this morning. Everything was supposed to be perfect and now it isn't and I just want to stay home. I'm so sick of stupid holidays and stupid pictures and trying to make everything special. I'm not appreciated and I'm not needed and I want to run away or die. I'm just an expensive burden. Dying would be simpler so that nobody has to waste resources looking for me.
