I'm so pissed right now. Went to a very expensive restaurant with my family for my parents' birthday. Parking was in an underground ramp and you had to keep your ticket so you could get out of the ramp. My hellion nieces and nephew were there--acting like total idiots because my sister can't control them in restaurants--and my niece took my ticket and pretended it was a credit card. BIL took all the kids out of the restaurant (because they were acting up) and my niece lost my ticket in the lake. So when I left the parking ramp, I had to press the "lost ticket" button and had to pay friggin' $21 to leave. Did my sister offer to pay me for this?? NO. OOOOHH. I'm still mad about this.

So annoyed right now. About 5 months ago, my DH randomly called my aunt, who he never had a great relationship with, and basically told her he never wanted to see her ever again and didn't want her in his life. Well, since then, every time I want to do anything with my family (my aunt, dad, mom, and sister and brother), DH basically doesn't come. Tomorrow is my mom and dad's birthday party at the restaurant where my brother is a chef. DH wants to come since he actually gets along well with my parents, but my aunt will be there and I do not want drama. I hate feeling so torn like this. I feel like I always have to choose between DH and my family and I resent DH for being such a dick to my aunt.

Reddit. I finally checked it out a few months ago and I can't tear myself away. Cute animals, politics, science, relationships, paranormal stories, news, things to do in your state, funny stories from restaurants/hotels/retail/hospitals, SO and MIL horror stories - you name it, there is a forum (called a subreddit) for pretty much everything you can think of.

Oh my gosh, I was going to make a similar post today. This weekend we had a family party for which some people flew in. There was a cousin there who not many of us knew. Holy crap she had a potty mouth, which she used loudly and proudly. We were so embarrassed. She was explaining how we were related. "Oh, I'm X's daughter, no one really knows me because I'm the product of a one-night stand between my dad's two marriages. Yeah, he just banged my mom one night and here I am!" Said at top volume in the middle of the bar of a very swanky restaurant in the city. Later we were talking about how delicious the oysters were, and she practically yells, "Aren't oysters a sex thing? Like, they make you really horny or something?" Jesus Christ. I asked where she lives and when she told me, that explained it. Literally on "the other side of the tracks." There was a lot of pearl clutching going on....

Super awkward moment: I was on a business trip with my boss/professor and we were leaving a restaurant. Two black women were standing next to the door outside and he went up to one of them and said "You have gorgeous long legs. You colored women always have such long pretty legs". The look on her face was priceless and I think she saw me turn beet red and try to pretend like I didn't know him. Luckily, his foreign accent is pretty noticeable, so maybe she understood that he wasn't from the U.S. (he isn't) but I felt so embarrassed. Should I tell him that you shouldn't use that term here? I feel like it's sort of not my place to interfere.

Going to my nephew's wedding on Friday. DH is pissed he has to use a PTO day. He thinks the couple is being selfish by making guests use their PTO/VAC days for it. My sister (whose cheap) is holding the rehearsal dinner at her house. I thought rehearsal dinners are usually at restaurants. This will be interesting to attend. Anyone here have or go to a Friday wedding? Is it there really a cost savings over having it on Saturday?

I suppose you could say we had a destination wedding. We got married on the beach in the Caribbean. But we didn't invite anyone. Not one person. Our witnesses were the photographer and someone who worked at the hotel. We wanted our day to be just that - ours. We didn't want to deal with other's people's schedules, travel itineraries, etc. We had the whole week do do what we wanted, when we wanted. Best wedding ever. We did have a big party about a month later at a very informal restaurant that is kind of a local icon. No cake or formal stuff, but open bar, DJ, dinner, lots of food, and even a "kids area" with activities to keep them busy, because we wanted everyone there. I even wore shorts, that's how informal it was. And we requested no gifts. It was just a fun celebration with family and friends. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing.

I worked shitty minimum wage jobs until I was almost 30 because I had NO confidence. Then, because I had so much cashier and waitress experience(I worked in cheap restaurants and did not make good money, did not have enough confidence to get a better waitressing job) I got a job as a bank teller. I advanced , and I am now a branch manager!

OP of 47282. Can't believe I didn't include this nugget: my dad thinks it's perfectly acceptable to tip 10% at restaurants. Also, back when carwashes were $5, he'd tip the guy a quarter and ask him for a nickel back.
