My stepmom used to be overweight, got liposuction (it was 20 pounds) and is now hating on others who have not lost weight easily. Namely me. I have lost 60 pounds and am fighting 30 more (it gets harder) and she constantly makes me feel bad for my weight. Finally I had enough and told her that I lost/currently losing weight through diet and exercise and not through surgery. I am trying the best I can and will continue to do so.

I can actually understand the feeling towards overweight people after a great weight loss. You work so hard to change - to become completely different from who you are to lose that much weight. Not only might it also call for a change in the people in your life, but you might not want to surround yourself with those who continue the negative behaviors. While I think "hating" them for it is too extreme, I can understand choosing to remove them from your life. It sucks and it hurts, but it makes sense to me, especially if they aren't actually supportive of you.

I have seen firsthand at least 5 divorces where one spouse loses weight/gets fit and leaves the other for whatever reason. I'm not sure if the weight loss finally gave them confidence to leave an unhappy situation or what.

Nothing worse than a former fat person becoming hypercritical of other fat people..... I've seen it happen several times with several different friends have gotten bariatric surgery. One guy I know lost over 200 pounds, then divorced his wife because "she refuses to lose weight and I'm just not attracted to fat women and I don't have to settle anymore,"

I have never ever been able to stick to good habits or study in my life, so I'm 30, overweight and have no real career at the moment. I started doing this thing called "Kaizen" which is not as airy fairy as it sounds. Basically, the principle is doing the tiniest of things every day...so for example, start eating one piece of fruit a day or one glass of water or spend one minute meditating or exercising a day and then build the time up week by week. It's actually been a miracle for me. I've now started taking artistic skate lessons and a language class and have had no problems sticking to it...obviously I've a huge way to go, I need to go back to school and study, but I've come a long way too. Obviously, a minute of meditation or exercise isn't going to do anything to change your body but it's great at changing your mind and as the weeks go by and the numbers creep up suddenly you find yourself living a much healthier lifestyle. It's really hard to be patient, because we think "I need to be thin by X date" or "I really need to have my career sorted by the time I'm 25/30 etc" but painfully slow progress is better than starting and stopping and getting nowhere in the long run. Anyway, the point of this incredibly long winded post was I really recommend it for anyone who is trying to make or break a habit or change their life. It's amazing.

Unfortunately, my friend who used to be fat, has turned into a fat person hater. She wanted to lose weight so badly that she got "weight loss surgery." Now, she constantly checks in when she's at the gym on Facebook, shows plenty of selfies, and apparently, she thinks everyone needs to get off Facebook and get like her. She posted such a status last night, and I wanted to bitch her ass out for it, but I chose to unfollow her and will eventually unfriend her. I am still fat, and she has distanced herself from me anyway (i.e., not really checking in with me, never sending a birthday card, though I have sent them to her, etc.), so perhaps the friendship was over a while ago. I am happy for her, and I have supported her through her trials and errors, when she was struggling with her weigh before her surgery, when she was going through chronic pain and illness, through her own heartbreak and family drama, but she can't even send me a birthday card and posts passive-aggressive Facebook statuses to the tune of "FATTY, YOU NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT AND BE LIKE ME!!!"? GIRL, BYE. HEAR THIS PEOPLE - BODY/LIFESTYLE SHAMING IS NEVER GOOD, especially when one has been the fat girl before. Shame on HER.

My confession is: I'm planning to put DH on a reduced-carb diet and see if he loses any weight. He has no idea and probably won't even notice. He could lose about 15lbs. I purchase, prepare, and serve just about everything that goes into his mouth. So if he's gained some weight, I'm definitely part of the problem. I admit that. Time to reverse this trend I've created. And- perform a fun little experiment while I'm at it! (whispering) "We've switched DH's sandwich and granola bar lunches for seven layer salad and string cheese. Let's see if he notices..." LOL! This is actually gonna be fun! And if he does lose weight, he will be really happy. He hates his gut. He won't voluntarily go on a diet, but he hates his gut. Go figure, right?

I have to bitch about an overweight friend. I go to the gym with her sometimes, she's genuinely trying. But, it's so frustrating when we do things as a group and she whines about doing things like walking a mile between activities. We're all happy to slow down for her, let her take it at her own pace, but without fail she gets super annoyed and bitchy and takes it out on everyone around her. These aren't death marches, they're flat walks on well-kept pavement. I get that things are harder for her than the rest of us, but if she gets angry about even being asked to try, it's hard to see how she'll ever improve.

That moment when you find out that an over weight, out of shape friend is doing Insanity...Shaking my head. Just do normal exercise first, would you? You don't have to jump to something so far out of your league that you'll end up quitting after a week! What a waste of money. And also, why not try to address your shitty diet, too? Argh. So frustrating. I hope she makes it through and sees the results she wants, but I get so sick of seeing people go for these short term fixes!!!!

Anybody seen the documentary 'Fed Up'? See it. I did, and I decided to cut sugar out of my diet. I lost five pounds in five days. And I'm not overweight. I went from 125 to 120. I haven't been under 125 since I was 19. And that was twenty years ago.
