So North Carolina passed an anti-LGBT law recently. So did Georgia, which was fortunately vetoed by their governor. Now Mississippi's senate has passed an even more restrictive anti-LGBT law. Any surprise that their all in the south? I know, I know. All you southerners are going to jump on here and say, "But it's not like that!" Well, apparently it is when your elected officials, you know, the ones the majority of the population supported, keep passing laws like this. Kind of like how the South was so progressive on racial issues 50 short years ago. And, yes, I lived in the south for a long time. I'm not from there, and I got out as soon as I could, but 10 years was long enough to know what it was really like.

Weather-wise, I could never live down south in the summers. We go to the Gulf every year and the heat and humidity is stifling. After a week I'm done. I can't imagine that all summer. And, no, I'm not bashing the South or people that live there, just the oppressive summer heat.

About the south bashing, it isn't as much on the parenting board. On some of the other boards, any time someone has an unpopular opinion and they're from the south, you'll see remarks like "I see ignorance is alive and well in the south" I'm not here too often these days, but I've seen it numerous times where people are like "Oh, you're from the south. It figures." Granted, it usually is in response to an ignorant post, but imagine if it were any other group of people, like if someone said, "Oh, you're from Mexico. Christ, no wonder you're ignorant." I'm not crying "poor me". I'm just pointing out some minor hypocrisy. The "only idiots..."remark was just to make a point. I didn't bring it up, just saying the OP who did was right.

My family has been in the South for a long time. A family of proud, liberal Democrats who have fought for civil and union rights. Plus we know how to make 'nana pudding with real meringue. :)

I also live in the south and have lower water bills. I think it's due to a lot of us being on septic systems, so we don't pay for sewage.... And yes, it does seem perfectly ok to bash an entire region on here. For some reason, it's acceptable to assume everyone in the south shares the exact same mentality. I don't let it bother me though, because only idiots make those kind of assumptions about groups of total strangers.

Water bill dropped $30 a month!?? My water bill is never over $30 a month. I never add fabric softener. Pollutes. Once in a while I add a vinegar rinse. I live in the south which you all can look down on, but water is soft here and cheap.

I've traveled the world, Europe, Asia, Central and South America & many places in the U.S. My black friends hardly go anywhere but to visit relatives and occasionally a theme park with their kids or grandkids. Family is more important to them than going somewhere just to look around or meet new people. They say they have good lives. Church is major. Different people live different ways. That is their way.

Glad to see ignorance is still alive and kicking in the south. Don't worry about us black folks, politics aren't as beyond our scope as you think. We can read and think for ourselves. Thank you so much though for your riveting analysis on how African Americans will be voting. Fucking racist.

I live in a county in the South that is at least 40% black. From conversations I've had with my black friends and neighbors about Bernie, I gather that not one of them gets a Jewish guy who hung out with leftist leaning folks, didn't work at anything real until he started feeding from the public trough (Congress), and now gets much of his support from college students. None of those things have been relevant to their experiences in life. Hillary is beyond their scope too but she understands how to engage with them - church, family, and the fake accent.

I haven't told any of my family or friends that I consider myself to be an atheist. I don't want to make a big deal out of it. It's just something that I define myself as in concern with religion. Even still, I used to be terrified about them finding out. I grew up in the South, and you're expected to be a good Christian there. Admitting to people that you don't believe in God will get you looked down upon without fail.
