By bipolar moments, I wonder if you HAVE bipolar or are you just using it to describe changes you have in mood throughout the day? Because the latter is completely normal. Bipolar as an illness is pretty devastating.

I hope boobooboo doesn't tract my posts back to my ip address... I go through bipolar moments where I'll post something happy and then something really depressing in the same day. She'd probably think I'm a horrible person.

I posted earlier about my DH getting his bipolar meds adjusted so he no longer has these psychotic episodes that involve screaming at me. Seroquel is definitely helping his mood, but it's also making him eat a LOT! I don't want to say anything because I will gladly take the few extra pounds over the screaming, but holy crap--I didn't think it was possible to eat that much food!

To the OP that was talking about her DH having a hypomanic episode and then seeming to forget about it. My youngest DD is like this. She is Bipolar with Psychotic episodes. She can go off on a huge rage that lasts forever. Then she will fall asleep and then seem not to remember anything when she wakes up. I am sorry your husband does this to you. I know how difficult it is. I am hoping that eventually they will find the right medications to help my daughter control this.

Hey--newsflash: People change after you marry them sometimes. My DH was very ambitious and always had a ton of projects he was working on when we got married. He developed bipolar II and now there are days where it's a struggle for him to get out of bed and there are days where he gets a ton done. Calling someone a dumbass because they married someone who has a bad trait is a moronic thing to say. I'd like to meet anyone who has the absolute perfect spouse who never does anything ever to annoy them.

My DH got his bipolar meds adjusted and he ended up sleeping 14 hours last night. I don't know how he does it. He didn't even have to get up to pee. My body is naturally awake after about 7-8 hours and if I stay in bed longer, I just get antsy.

OP with the Bipolar brother. Last month he was going to kill himself, now he has found another GF. This one is 14 yrs younger, has small kids and works two jobs. What the hell does she see in my brother? A self absorbed whiny pot head that hasn't worked in 8 years and before she knows it, will start trying to tell her how to dress, how to do her make up, who she can talk to, and generally make her life hell due to his pathological insecurities. Good Luck lady!

If someone dies of a heart attack, it isn't their fault. Same goes for mental illness. Heart disease, diabetes, bipolar disorder, depression, hypertension, whatever. They are all illnesses and everyone reacts differently to illnesses. Some people have strokes. Some people kill themselves. It's always a sad event worthy of sympathy, not condemnation.

This may not be a parenting issue, but I am a parent, and it's about my mom. My mom has her problems. She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenic Tendencies when she was 21. She had me when she was 28, and since I was born, I've seen my mom go through horrid delusional episodes of mania and depression. It's like a switch goes off in her head, and instantly, she's not right. She starts hearing voices, saying they are God and He's telling her to do things (but bad things). My mom has wanted to kill my siblings and I then herself when I was little. She becomes homicidal/suicidal during her episodes. With medication, she can function like a normal person. Sometimes she thinks she doesn't need it, and that's when these episodes happen. My mom is now 50 and still struggles with her disorder every few years. My mom is currently having a manic episode right now and she is away from home on vacation with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend has never seen one of her episodes. I am absolutely terrified. She's coming home tomorrow, but I'm so anxious that I cannot sleep. Her boyfriend said that she had ran away from him and was trying to hitchhike home. When I talked to my mom, she said it was because "everyone around her is evil". We got her to calm down on the phone. And hopefully she will sleep tonight. I'm sorry everyone, but I could really use a hug.

OP with the bipolar brother. He tells me a friend of mine came up as a match for him on a dating site!! I told her about it too, and strongly told both not to go their. No one in there right mind would date my brother, which is evident every time we meet his latest girlfriend, they are all fall down, losers. My friend is only marginally better, she actually works, but is fairly unstable and almost exclusively dates losers. My brother can't understand why I don't think he should go for it, and doesn't understand when I said he needs to bring more to the table in terms of relationships. He thinks it's the woman's job to just "make him happy" and that him being "a great guy" should be enough. Not in this world.
