Since I'm staying in by the fire and watching movies tonight, I was planning on getting takeout food from one of my favorite restaurants after work but they were closed! So I decided to eat as much of the leftover food in my refrigerator as possible, and start fresh tomorrow. I ended up with broccoli salad, hummus and crackers, and a grilled cheese sandwich. Happy New Year's Eve to my chit chat friends!

i had terrible acne when i was a teen. my self-esteem suffered because of it. i was on several medications for it and it took years to clear up. One time my parents took me out to dinner and we ran into some family friends eating at the same restaurant. we exchanged pleasantries and went to our table. their table was by the bathrooms so i had to pass them to get there. when i did i overheard the wife say that omg if her daughter's face looked like mine, she would never take her out in public. the husband agreed and wondered why my parents weren't doing anything to help me. haven't they seen me? their comments hurt me deeply. it left me wondering for a long time how many other people i saw out and about felt the same way about me. i'm an adult now with a good sense of self and no longer have acne. i don't hold a grudge or anything but it's something i've never forgotten. at one point two adults thought i was too hideous as a teen to be allowed outside.

I always just wanted a guy who'd go to a bar/restaurant with me and chat while we shared a bottle of wine. Have yet to find a guy like that. Ex husband thought I'd become addicted if I drank; ex boyfriend didn't drink; most recent ex only drank liquor. Why is this so hard?

I can make most things at home that restaurants sell too, but I like having someone else do the cooking and cleaning for me once in a while. Even if it is just a burger and fries. I don't trust the mailed in meals regardless of price.

the only restaurants we ate in while i was growing up were either fast food or buffets (like golden corral, ryan's etc). i was in my early 20s the first time i ate in a restaurant with actual wait staff to take your order and bring you your food. it's not that we couldn't afford it per se it's just that my dad was always about quantity over quality. i went to visit my dad and offered to take him out to dinner (my treat). he said he felt like pizza. there's this great family-owned pizza shop near him that's been around for over 40 years that people always raved about that uses fresh, high quality ingredients. when i suggested it he said he didn't see the point in paying $20+ dollars for a large pizza when we could get one for $5 at Little Cesar's. I got him what he wanted but part of me is frustrated that he still refuses to try anything different.

Haha, that's how I feel about restaurants too. I won't go to a restaurant that has stuff I can make at home easily. When we go out to eat it's usually a brewery or sushi. I'm good at making rolls but I don't know where to source sashimi grade fish.

Try standing up and saying you're not cooking holiday dinner when everyone else expects it. Suggest going out. So there you are with 10 hungry people in a restaurant and they stick you with the check. Try delegating to a bunch of irresponsible adult stepchildren whose attitude is they deserve to be entertained and fed while they watch TV and drink. Try assigning cleanup tasks to those stepkids and have them blow it off and leave the house. Then phone me from the hospital after your blood pressure has caused your stroke and let me know if it worked.

Someone posted a pic on FB thanking people who have to work today (firefighters, cops, MDs, nurses, 911 operators). What about people in not so glamorous jobs that are stuck working today? Why not thank the ones @ gas stations, drug stores, retail & grocery stores and restaurants? Thank the retail workers whose holiday is f**ed up so greedy shoppers can get their BF deals. The greedy shoppers who probably NEVER have to work a holiday or weekend.

I deactivated my Facebook account after three weeks and only had one notification from the Indian restaurant. Nobody's keeping in touch unless they want to sell you something.

I live in a place with a lot of homeless people. It really irritates me. There's a lady who actually yelled at my son once (he was 3) because I didn't have money to give her. Told him he stole all her money. So any time I see her now and she asks for money I say no. She caught us in the parking lot of a restaurant the other day (me, ds, my mom) and asked us for change. We said no (at the time my mom didn't know she's the one who yelled at ds my ths ago, we're just on a budget) and she looked as ds and muttered something as we walked away. It's people like her that make me very unsympathetic to the homeless population here. I almost surprise myself at how much I diligent them as a whole.
