Georgia in the US has a shrimp industry. So do, Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, Missisippi and maybe others. We freed our slaves long ago. So far, we haven't displaced any of our beautiful coastal communities. They are all still there pending the next hurricane. No drinking water has been polluted because the board of health supervises water. Florida is very protective of mangroves although they smell bad. If you stop eating shrimp it affects the livelihood of our US workers whose families depend on it. Please eat shrimp! And take vacations in these places in the US where you can see the lovely shrimp boats going in and out of the dock.

I work at a library downtown in South Florida. I am having trouble empathizing and helping the homeless. They throw trash all around the library and I see at least one man a day urinating in public, in broad daylight. I try not to judge but what about the people who need to get to the library and seriously, you can't get down the sidewalk cause people are sleeping, cooking, throwing dice, living there. One, how does a country as wealthy as the USA explain this and Two, why is the library the people's day waiting room? Also, I have not detailed the assaults, drug deals, sex in the bathrooms, and other fun stuff that goes on daily.

Can I just leave? Not just leave the country, but move to some deserted island far, far away from the human race? Another day, another shooting. I'm sick to death of hearing about it and if Donald Trump gets elected, I WILL find my own island somewhere in the South Pacific and live out the rest of my days in ignorant bliss of what's going on in the rest of this world.

Where I live in Florida most of the immigrants are Cubans. Have built this city, contributed so much. Taxes, businesses, the arts, culture, no regrets here for immigration. I think it makes US culture stronger when we get cultural influences from other places. I learned a second language to communicate with my neighbors but can now talk to anyone in Central or South America. I am richer because of immigration.

Property tax on a South Carolina home in a small county ($2300 square ft.) = $854 per year. We have state income tax but not excessive at all.

There were a lot of Guatemalan drivers who were unlicensed and drove like they did in Guatemala. Costa Ricans too. The South and Central American countries apparently don't have the same standards for driving that we do in the US. For instance, when I was in that part of the world, everyone habitually disobeyed traffic rules. Just lean on the horn and go no matter what's coming at you or what color the light is.

I spent the first half of my youth in the north, the second half in the south. The only thing wrong with the north is that they tend to name their boys things like Guido instead of Bubba. Talk about low class northerners, Guido is at the bottom except for maybe Scuzzy. Naming kids Guido and Scuzzy makes all northerners seem bad. (See how silly all this stereotyping is? How about considering each and every person on his or her own merit??)

I think any normal person who has spent time in the south understands the southern stereotypes.

My mil is a self-proclaimed southern belle from New Orleans. She speaks with a southern accent. Calm down. This has nothing to do with refugees and you might want to look up the definition of racist before you use that word again. My confession was just me venting about my extremely dysfunctional mil who says she will never let go of her "Southern boys."
