OP with Veteran husband: both my husband and I served. I did my term and got out. He served three times as long as I did, and saw combat many times. One time, after talking about our service with friends, I told him I felt inadequate compared to what he went through. He very emphatically told me not to EVER feel that way. Just because I served during peacetime didn't discount what I did. We ALL played an important part for our country, from fighter pilots on down to storekeepers and admins. Like all of us, your dh left his family, went through grueling training, had to spend holidays with people he barely knew and gave the government free rein to do with him what they wished. Would you be willing to do that? Most ppl wouldn't. He deserves every bit of recognition. At least he's not walking around in a fake uniform PRETENDING to be a Veteran!!!

I'm not saying the clock boy (who is freaking adorable by the way) incident wasn't due to Islamophobia, it definitely was, but I think it's also symptomatic of how utterly paranoid our school system has gotten. Kids get suspended for having toy guns or swords. That policy started when I was a kid in my home state, they mandated expulsion for any kid with even a fake weapon or a tool like an exacto knife or pocket knife. Guess what, none of that stopped kids bringing actual guns into school, but a lot of kids got in trouble for stuff that made no sense, just like Ahmed. And the administrators did routinely target black and brown kids even though the white kids did it just as often.

On LinkedIn and going down a rabbit hole. Was checking out some recruiters profiles and so many are still wet behind the ears and have little to no experience in recruiting. I see them going from a couple of years in sales or administrative work, into recruiting. Check out their education - they have a degree but it's not in HR. Wtf?!? And these are the people that will know if I'm qualified for the job or not. That's scary.

I wrote a grant for my kid's school. It was funded, yay! I never would have known, except a person who was at the PTA meeting emailed me after to let me know. Not the school administrator, who came to the meeting with the check. I know we are supposed to do good deeds with no thought of reward, but is bothering to tell me it was funded really too much to ask? Really? I spend a lot of time writing this thing. I'm not on the PTA. I happened to see the call for applications, and thought it would be worth applying for. Flame away; I'm all volunteered out.
