I dated a French guy for a while and yes he thought it was nasty that Americans kissed their dog's faces and slept with them. I thought he was very uptight about the whole thing, but there you have it....a cultural difference. He was also very grossed out about other aspects of typical American hygiene. I found it very strange to feel so....well...judged by someone from another country and culture. It simply never happened to me before and it was startling to think that Americans could be viewed as unsanitary? Oh, and we didn't date long.

Many countries think American are disgusting for not using plastic gloves to pick their produce. When you think about how many people rummage through produce finding the piece they want, it is pretty disgusting. Americans don't think about this until it is pointed out and even then they don't care. Think about who hasn't washed their hands after going to the bathroom or changing a diaper, who sneezed in their hand or picked their nose prior to sorting through and touching most of the produce. Then there are many people that either don't wash or properly wash their produce after being touched by lots of people. Countries that have bidets think that people who don't use bidets are gross. Every country has something that isn't up to standards by another country.

You realize that there are other countries that think the US has some sanitation issues as well, right? A lot of cultures think it's disgusting that we allow dog to live in houses with us - even sleep with us. They carry disease, fleas, etc. But Americans don't see anything wrong with it. And as someone said in a reply to another post about this, Google Flint, MI or Appalacia. Heck, in parts of Kentucky, nearly half the population doesn't even have running water.

Wtf are you even talking about? This is some extreme ethnocentrism, right here. I've been to China, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore. Yes, the culture is different, but maggot filled diapers in the gutter and trenches of shit different? No. Makes me think you either A) have never actually been to the places you named, or B) just enjoy being an ethnocentric, "America First" bigot. I'm gonna go with B. You want to talk poor quality of life, try Googling Flint, Michigan.

Ah, America. Where the flies never breed, land on your food, or even dare to enter kitchens. Where public toilets NEVER smell bad and are always immaculately clean. Food born illnesses never happen here, either. I mean, as long as children being shot dead is palatable to you, it's a bastion of cleanliness, godliness, and morality. Never mind our shameful infant mortality rate. God bless the USA. We're equally fucked up, but still better than everywhere else, am I right?

I just think it is shallow how businesses will allow foul smelling people enter their stores and say they are an customer because of spending a few dollars. its like standards for customers is real yet expectations of employees is an thing. i thought Starbucks other then providing coffee also provides an service. it shows how shallow the American economy has become. then i thought if something is offered for free it is still an service offered by the company. employees believe anything for free is not an Service. I don't know. I just think the possibility that I can have an potential customer is better than an customer who does not meet the demographics and culture or age of the companies target customer. like i watched an young lady enter Starbucks to use wifi, an honourable activity. yet she did not buy anything. now an homeless person walks in the store with shopping cart and bags yet this person buys an coffee and this person has an foul odor and it seems by the actions

The fact that so many people think this way is exactly what is wrong with America. We have just as many flies and rats in restaurants here as anywhere, OP. The amount of racism and xenophobia in this post just makes me sad.

Americans have such a superiority complex when it comes to their country and way of life. Arrogance does not equal intelligence.
