Long story, but the gist is that my mom has always been pretty batshit mental. My dad has always made excuses for her, never defended us against her crazy, etc bc he is either terrified of her or afraid of losing her. Idk which. Being Southern, Bible belt raised, I've always just put up with it and felt guilty if I feel anything but "respect". I always bend over backwards for her, and have pissed off my DH many times by doing so. This christmas, she called me a smartass in front of my small children. I dont know why, but I just decided i no longer wanted to deal with her. Packed up my kids without a word and left. Havent spoken to her since, except to tell her not to come over in response to her guilt trippy texts and her penchant for showing up on my doorstep at all hours unannounced. This time has been so blissful, and I cant decide if I am being selfish by separating myself and my family (she has never been verbally abusive to my kids like she was to me), or if im finally doing righ

if we weren't married, i would've ended things with DH a long time ago. as it stands now, i don't have the money, energy, resources, or mental fortitude to go through a nasty divorce. hopefully someday i will.

my resolution is to work on my mental health. I've already made an appointment with a therapist for January. I have a lot of other issues i could make resolutions for as well (binge eating, poor body image, procrastination, debt, impulse purchases, excess weight etc) but i think working with someone and doing the work to learn why i do the things i do will help me in multiple areas of my life.

wow someone sounds controlling and mental. If you can't be happy for people who are happy to get something nice, then you're the one with the issues. It's their FB, they can post what they want. If you want to be petty about it, then delete them. Simple as that. Happy Holidays Scrooge.

Medicare for all would cut the costs considerably because we won't have insurance companies taking a huge cut of the money. We pay $200 a month for high deductible insurance which covers nothing until you hit $5000 in bills for each person. At that point, it STARTS covering 80% of the costs. So if you end up in the hospital and the total bill is $200,000 (not uncommon for a several day stay and a surgery/tests), we'd still have to pay $41,000 out of pocket for it. And that's if it's in network. If it happens that it's not and you just get rushed to the nearest one and it's out of network, you're on the hook for 60% of the costs. Meanwhile my ILs have Medicare and although they do have a supplemental policy, they are paying a LOT less in medical bills than we are and they go to the doctor a lot more. Granted it's not a perfect system but it's gotta be better than the clusterf*ck we have now.

I used to believe that Medicare should be reserved for older folks who paid into it all their lives. But here I am, 63 years old and paying $1078 a month for insurance with a $75 copay every time I go to the doctor. A bill for a recent hospital stay was $41,000 (ER), and my balance will be $19,788. DH is on Medicare and we pay $160 a month for his supplemental insurance. His balance for office visits and lab work is always ZERO. So, yeah, I’m beginning to think that Medicare for all may be the way to go.

I live in the U.S. and enjoyed good healthcare until my husband went on Medicare. Then both of us lost our healthcare. He got a supplemental insurance and the only insurance available to me has cost us $1058 a month. But wait, there’s more! The premium just went up $27 a month....so I can pay 50% of all office visits and have to be approved for every damned test. That’s with a $3000 deductible and $8000 max out of pocket. This sucks!

I'm suffering from a pretty bad mental illness that's basically consuming my life at this point. I know that I need to get real treatment in order to stop it (I need to go to a treatment facility) and I need to take time off work to do it. But our company's CEO doesn't "believe in" mental illness. We aren't allowed to take leave for mental health conditions unless we can prove it's causing physical "real" illness. I think this is probably very illegal and I want to report him but my illness does have a lot of physical manifestations that are causing my physical health to be awful. So I can take the leave but it's bullshit that in this day and age people don't "believe in" mental illnesses.

I get annoyed at social media boasting too. I don't post much on there and I can't stand my friends who post all the time about the vacation they're going on, the new car they got, the expensive food they buy, etc. It's just mentally exhausting to me. I have unfollowed some of my friends who post nothing really inspirational and it's all their selfies and captions talking about how great they are.
