Believe me, vaccinated patients are having a very different experience with covid. We currently have 7 covid patients (we're expecting more. Our county just went back into the yellow) and only one is vaccinated. The only reason she's admitted is because of her copd. What I'm getting at is that vaccinated people are typically not being admitted. They are the ones with the mild flu-like symptoms. There's a reason Fox news, just last week, started encouraging vaccinations. Their base is about to experience heavy losses from the variant. As a nurse, I can't take another year like 2020. People crying in their ICU beds, asking for the vaccine, now that they're infected and their 02 sat is dropping. I can't do it anymore. I didn't go to school to watch people die because they watched a propaganda video on YouTube.

(con'td) where they give me morphine and prep me for a cat scan. The nurse asked me if I'd ever felt this before, and I told him yes and explained. He told me I had likely been experiencing chronic appendicitis which is very hard to diagnose. They can only see it on a scan if it's acute. Turns out that's what it was (acute appendicitis) and I had to have emergency surgery. Bottom line: if I had gone to the Dr last fall they would have given me scans and tests and charged me hundreds of dollars and found nothing. And last week, I would have absolutely refused to go see another useless doctor. No way in hell. And I'd probably have burst my appendix while DH was at work and could have easily died. So yeah. That happened. Now I feel like my body doesn't even belong to me. Still trying to recover from surgery.

Any healthcare workers on here just totally fucking over people right now? People have been getting nastier and nastier over the past few months. I hung up on two last week for screaming at me. This morning, I get cussed out, and then the asshole has the balls to call me back and try to sweet talk me into changing the doctor's schedule to get her in. I'm not green to being a nurse. There are always assholes, but lately, something is in the water making people crazy.

After nearly 6 months of isolation. DS started hanging out with a select group of friends. They all work together. All their parents work from home now, and they only hang out at one kid's house, and in the basement. His dad, my husband and I are all okay with this, but DS' stepmom is FURIOUS. Screaming that if DS brings COVID into their house, she'll be pissed. Meanwhile...she's going out to eat all the time with her friends, goes shopping at the mall, and babysits the neighbor's kids in their house. The mom is a NURSE. Who's putting themselves more at risk? Talk about hypocritical!

My sister is a front-line worker (ER nurse). She had COVID in May that she contracted from work. She hasn't seen her kids in four months and calls me crying at least 3 times a week because she is so frustrated, exhausted, and tired. Her son is high-risk and she can't take the chance of exposing him. She's also currently working in a different city that didn't have enough medical staff to handle all of the COVID patients. A large number of the people coming in are big pro-Trump, anti-mask folks who still truly believe this is a democratic conspiracy. There was even one patient who refused to have the Asian doctor treat him because this was his fault, and yelled racial slurs at him. We're in a very red state, BTW. It's really hard to feel compassion for those folks.

I live in a large US metropolitan city, our homeless problem I can only describe as unreal. Every degree of mental illness on display for all of the public to see, addiction so strong the person has turned into your nightmare. Everyday, I walk past, I step over, step aside, not stare, not engage. On a weekly basis I walk past people writhing in agony on the streets, suffering from lord knows what. The police see them, doctors, nurses, social workers, everybody sees them. While I of course support affordable housing for all...I really don’t think this is the silver bullet. I hate to sound like an alarmist, but we’re really going to hell in a hand basket here.

I got a Covid test yesterday and was parked behind a SUV with kids. I felt bad for the kids that were kicking and screaming not wanting to get tested. I saw the parent have to physically hold their child down with two other nurses doing the same. She was extremely curt with my testing, but I don't really blame her having to do this all day long while putting herself at risk. I'm grateful for our healthcare workers.

Housecleaner here. I had a nice, easy part-time schedule for months, even though I did ask for some more hours but never got them. Now I'm getting slammed. Since I'm getting pandemic unemployment (because I was supposed to start a new job in April), I can't refuse any work, but goddamn, I'm exhausted. I'm not happy that I'm expected to go to multiple homes a day now, as I don't think it's safe because I don't know where everyone's been. And no one wears masks. I even went to a nurse's home the other day, and her mask was around her chin. We're on our own as far as getting masks, gloves and sanitizer. We were told we'd get paid for any customers who suspended service, but so far I've only gotten paid for 8 hrs, two months ago. I was also due a bonus last month that I haven't gotten. But above all, I wish my boss would ask if we're okay. I'm not okay. /End rant

You've been running around doing everything for these in-laws, but all of a sudden you're going to put your foot down and not help after your MIL has surgery and is incapacitated? You know she's not going to hire a nurse and have a stranger/s in her house. 100% chance of you ending up doing it.
