Another issue with the police is reporting any type of sexual or domestic violence. You will most likely be gaslit, called a liar, told you're exaggerating...not just by male cops either. Watch "Unbreakable" on Netflix and realise this is STILL happening. Spend five minutes of looking into the zillions of cases where multiple women complained about a man's behaviour towards them, then that man goes on to kill someone and the police do surprised Pikachu face as if no-one had already warned them about this dangerous individual. Also the many peaceful, law-abiding protesters beaten by them. The police exist to keep public order, not to protect us.

As a white but neurodivergent person, I have been a recipient of repeated police harassment over a period of a year. Sure, #notallpoliceofficers, there's always a few nice ones, but the vast majority are trained to racially profile people, and they're also trained to look for "weak links" like me who show obvious anxiety or perhaps have an unusal/odd/strange manner. Obviously you generally cannot usually tell by looking at someone that they have a neurodivergence or severe mental illness, but some studies suggest that half of people killed by police have a disability...when you consider a huge proportion of those will be people of colour, especially Black people, it becomes doubly disgusting. I don't want to take away from the racial issue, but the police completely unfairly target people for a multitude of reasons. Also, I live in UK, this is not just an American issue, yours are just more dangerous because they carry guns as standard, only special types of police get them here.

But I know not everyone receives that type of experience when pulled over by the police. Perhaps I was given the benefit of doubt since I’m an Asian woman because he was not aggressive towards me. I admit I am privileged and I’m learning to unpack what this means for others that do not experience when dealing w/ law enforcement especially if you are Black or Brown.

I got pulled over for driving on expired tags (long story). It was a positive experience. The officer that pulled me over was really cute and we ended up chatting for 30 minutes about current issues. I made him laugh and he said I was sweet. lol Well...I still got a fix-it ticket, understandably since my tag is from 2020, but I gained newfound respect for the police. I don't think they're all like George Floyd's murderer. Such a delightful and unexpectedly positive human interaction while being pulled over. That feels like an oxymoron.

The Chauvin trial has me worried. I think a lot of people are being awfully cavalier in assuming there will be a conviction. Those of us who are old enough remember the Rodney King case. It was an absolutely blatant case of horrific police brutality, all on tape, and they were aquitted. Never underestimate the depth of the racism in this country.

About 31% of all rapes are ever reported to police. Only 5.7% lead to an arrest. 1.1% are referred to a prosecutor. 0.7% are convicted of a felony. 0.6% get jail time. HALF A FUCKING PERCENT. But tell me again how men are the real victims.

Oh good, Marilyn Manson now has a string of internet woman haters backing him despite a catalogue of public abuse of multiple people spanning decades and claims being pretty substantial. Can't believe I ever liked him. I guess "But Amber Heard tho" is going to be the rallying call for the next 145 years and thus invalidates all women who don't go immediately to the police after an assault happens.

People protested peacefully, and nobody listened. Since the beginning of time, people of color have said they have been mistreated by police. Nobody listened to them, Now that everyone has a camera in their back pocket, there is "proof" so people are starting to believe them. People just need to listen. When tens of thousands of people tell you something is happening, listen to them. Believe them. Work to change that. I see the same going on with women. We have been telling people that we are harassed and threatened for hundreds of years. But nobody listened. Or it was "rare." Now that harassment and threats are done online, and there's "proof" people are finally believing us. Just because something doesn't happen to you or you've never seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Just listen to people and believe them.

I love that domestic terrorists have now *twice* stormed government buildings recently with guns, and I've seen footage where they're literally shoving the police. But an unarmed Black man can't walk down a street apparently. Oh, and when I say I love it, I mean I hate it. I hate it SO much.
