I took my puppy to the vet for a few test. I knew they weren't super cheap. I was talking to my mom, said I bet when I tell BF how much it cost he'll say I should put him down. I was right he wouldn't shut up, told me I was lucky he didn't take him in because he wouldn't have come home with him. It was a couple hundred not outrageous. I wanted him tested and asked for the test. He told me if the test came back positive I will put him down. All of his vet care has came from my pocket, I'm not killing him over a couple hundred dollars a year. His food cost more than that in a year! My animal loving self can't wrap my head around dogs not being a family member. My puppy will have a long, happy, healthy life. If he gets very sick and is suffering that's the only way I'll put him down. This relationship is not going to work out. Don't ever tell me you would kill my dogs.

I feed a fox in my yard...he is so scrawny, I'm trying to fatten him up before the winter. I throw him leftover chicken and he likes raw hotdogs too. He actually hangs out in the neighbors yard with her cats. He's so cute, I wish I could bring him inside and cuddle with him! Found out a couple of neighbors are also feeding him. We're not out in the country, either. Middle of a city in a subdivision. Hope he can survive.

I'm sorry that you and the rest of your family weren't afforded the luxury of being a child when you were a child. I don't think a child should have to pay room and board or work to buy necessities (unless it is a need, like your parents literally don't have the money and then you're helping out the family). That's just sad. You were forced into being an adult before you actually were one. I was allowed to be a child when I was one. I went to school and yes I had a job when I turned 16, but that was to pay for fancier clothes than my parents could afford and to pay for extras. It wasn't to pay room and board or for food. I got to play sports and go to parties and have fun. I didn't have adult responsibilties until I was an adult. Wusses? For real? Our society isn't going to the dogs btw. Did you know that kids these days are actually pretty good little people? Sorry you can't see that.

My grandfather worked at the family business from the time he was 10. By 17, he worked full time at a responsible job. Dad worked from age 15 on in a store and nights in a band. Mom, Grandma and I all could make our clothes by the time we were about 13 or so. I was working at 16 and going to school. Wasn't allowed to drive until age 18 and then I had to pay for gas. From age of 16 when I worked I had to pay a percentage to my parents for room and board. If I needed something extra, like other than clothes, I paid for it. I had the brain capacity at 16 to know that I didn't want a menial job all my life and needed to go to college. I got there on my own and paid for it. I see these wusses with a cell phone attached to their hand and a sense of entitlement plus parents who encourage it and I know exactly why our culture is going to the dogs.

Hey dog post OP! You should look for a short term foster situation. I'm in one where we can foster one night a week as dogs are moved rescue to rescue. If it doesn't fit my schedule, I just don't volunteer that week. It's perfect. After my sweet companion passes on, I plan to only foster.

I never got my dog spayed. She's almost 13 now. I planned on doing it when I first got her and then I got busy and kept saying I'll call the vet tomorrow, I'll take her tomorrow. I had the money and the time. I procrastinated. I didn't know anything about health issues relating to not getting your pet neutered, I was only going to do it to prevent her getting pregnant. I've only just heard about the pyometria. We just spent 600$ on getting her teeth cleaned (little dogs tend to have dental issues regardless of how much you brush and how many greenies you give them) and I don't want to spend more on her at the moment and I won't. I don't even feel bad. She's always been up to date on her shots, she's healthy in every single way. If she gets breast cancer/pyometria, she gets it.

I posted earlier about my parents losing their unspayed dog to pyometria. They basically "never got around to it" and the dog did have a litter of unplanned pups where the dad was the mom's brother. You would think that would've taught them, but my dad insisted that pyometria only affected farm dogs (?) and their dogs weren't going to get it. The shittiest part about it is that they are members of the kennel club and consider themselves dog "experts". They make me so angry when it comes to this stuff. I honestly don't think they should be dog owners at all but of course they won't listen to me.

I know this loser who had 2 dogs, yes, as in past tense. She got one dog, a male then got his sister from the next litter, didn't fix either one and well the male dog got a hold of the female and she got pregnant, not once, not twice but 3 times! And they're half siblings, ugh. Oh, and this trashy person kept one of the puppies simply cause he had 1 white ball and 1 black ball. We don't know what she did with the female but my step kids told me "mom got rid of her cause she kept getting pregnant." I want to smack this idiot. We think she probably took a midnight drive and dumped her off. I told my step kids "well your mom keeps getting pregnant but we don't dump her off in a field because of it."

I'm so mad at my parents. They had two female dogs--both unspayed. I told them over and over that they really should spay them so they didn't have unwanted pups or an issue with uterine cancer. Well, my dad told me that one of them got really sick and after three days of her not eating or drinking, they took her to the vet. Turns out, she had advanced pyometria and had to be put down. It could have been totally avoided if they'd gotten her spayed. I'm so irritated that they are so irresponsible.
