DH loves South Park. He has been going around singing that stupid Swiss Colony Beef Log song for days, so I have decided that is what I am buying him for Xmas.

I live on the southernmost tip of Alabama. Obviously, the stereotypes are pretty embarrassing and upsetting. Incest, rednecks, etc. But it's not like that. We are like a big family in the town I grew up in, but we definitely don't fit any of the stereotypes I've heard of down here. Unless it's got something to do with football(which I hate), it's usually not true. I say usually, because I'm sure there are some I haven't heard yet.

Some states I just can't conjure up a single stereotype for. Ohio? Arkansas? South Dakota? I'm blank.

I've been a southern California girl all of my life. Besides the saying, it never rains here (although we just had 3 nights of rain, but we are in a drought), and maybe people think everyone's a surfer and we all wear shorts and flip flops, I'm curious to know what the other stereotypes of southern California are.

I live in South Carolina. The people of all races are unfailingly nice. You can expect men and women to hold a store or office door open for the next person behind them and they are thanked with a smile. Mostly everyone is hardworking and proud of their state. You hear very little raunchy language in general. The only downside is that it's hard to get to know someone better because they are always busy with their church or family. Also the women tend to have nothing interesting outside of home and church to talk about. It's just not done. I am a woman and miss intelligent and diverse topics but if introducing anything that would require an opinion or conversation from women friends, I just get weird looks and silence in return.

It's true what they say about 'it never rains in Southern California'. We have a drought to prove it. Please send rain.

We're all staying sick here. I live in the south and it's been 40 degrees on the way to work and 85 on lunch and 60 at bedtime. And now it's supposed to freeze or some crap. I roll my eyes at this weather frequently.

On "white guys with dreads" and people assuming they are automatically douchebags. I actually witnessed a person go off on a friend of mine who is white with dreads, whining about cultural appropriation and how my friend was basically a racist. The crux of the argument came when my friend said "I'm actually mixed race, my mother is black, I just happen to look very caucasian.". Being from South Africa, he has experienced prejudice all his life because of being mixed. No, he doesn't look black so he doesn't have to deal with stereotypical prejudice over here (except of course, from people assuming he is a douche for having dreads), but he still has black heritage, and the reason he has dreads is because the most African thing about him is his hair, it's very tight and curly and dreads naturally. So maybe next time you think "that guy's a douche" without knowing his background, it makes you the real douche.

I just booked a ticket to see my dad in January! He lives on the other side of the country, and seeing him for the holidays is always too expensive for both of us. For the past two or three years, I've gone in Jan or Feb instead because it's cheaper (Southwest is having a sale through Thursday), and I told him we should just start thinking of this as our holiday tradition. I'm excited! He doesn't have much money, either, but when I asked him to pay for the cost of parking my car at the airport, he agreed immediately. I'm so glad I get to see him!

There were thousands of pissed off commuters today on one of our freeways. A man threatening to jump from the freeway overpass shutdown both sides of the 60fwy for 4 hours while negotiators tried to help him off. I've been stuck on the freeway before a couple times for same thing and one of them was because a drunk lady jumped out of moonroof of limo at 5:30am on a Monday morning during our drive and she was hit by quite a few cars and her body was dismembered. That shutdown the freeway all morning and I was stuck for three hours. Not fun. Southern California traffic ain't no joke as it is, but to get shutdown..not bueno. (Cops were able to tase the guy from today and took him into custody)
