He used to sort of clean and cook and do laundry, but I thought it was cute that he pretty much lived on sandwiches and hot dogs and thought you could clean anything with a vacuum cleaner. I guess I kind of felt like I was "saving the day" by helping him clean better and make better food for him to eat. He sort of got used to it and stopped helping as much. I know it's my fault. I'm trying to get him to be a little more useful though--he helps when I ask him to. He just doesn't usually think to do laundry on his own or just wash dishes because they're dirty.

I think dogs stink personally and I love animals. I think dogs smell like Fritos. I have cats though and they don't stink but their litter boxes do.

I feel the same way about dogs as CF people feel about kids. I don't want to pet them, smell them, hear them, etc. So I get it.

ugh my boyfriend's dog is so annoying. sweet but annoying. whenever we're eating she begs and puts her snout in your lap and just generally won't leave us alone. i just want to fucking eat in peace. i don't understand why she does it anyway since we never give her table scraps. boyfriend doesn't seem to have a problem with it appearantly since he doesn't do anything about it. it's especially embarrassing when we have people over for dinner. I've always had cats so i have zero experience training dogs so i don't know how to break this habit. plus i don't even know if it's possible since she's 13 years old.

Big dog lover here! My bil and sil keep their Labrador in a kennel/crate all the time. It really bothered me. I took her on three long walks while we were visiting for a couple of days because it made me so sad to see her caged. She goes out to go potty and then right back into the crate. They do this because???? I'm not sure. To keep the house pristine? Because it is. My dogs get the run of the house and one sleeps with us and the other can't because he hogs the whole bed and kicks us in his sleep. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to cause a fight/tension while we were there. Poor doggie.

My cousin--a type 1 diabetic--is trying to get an alert dog! I'm so excited. I hope she can find one soon. A little while ago her pump malfunctioned and she went into DKA and the idiots at her ER didn't know what to do and she stayed sick for way too long. Too bad alert dogs are so expensive and not covered by insurance :(

I'm sick of the fireworks too. Some ppl have to work the next morning. It's not legal in the neighborhood but ppl do it anyway and cops don't really enforce it. I don't want to worry about accidents or picking up the trash in my yard. My dogs freak out and we have to work! This is the second night in a row and it's been going on for HOURS! Someone left their distressed doc out to howl for TWO HOURS straight. Cops are too busy to come out here or to care.

If you have a dog, and it's obviously not neutered, I judge you. It is completely irresponsible. The vast majority of people are not licensed breeders, and even those kind of rub me the wrong way since there are already entirely to many loving dogs euthanized every day.

I turned away from veganism years ago, when someone verbally abused me (as a 14 year old) for riding a pony. I get the meat, dairy, eggs, leather, animal testing for cosmetics parts of veganism and I don't partake in any of those things. But I think the idea that all horse riding is abuse (and I'm not talking horse racing or high level halter or competition which is often very cruel, just pleasure riding and local for-fun competitions, which my horse really seems to love) and the idea that the "ownership" of domestic animals is slavery is just taking it too far. I think we need to re-evaluate our treatment of the animals in our lives sure, but a world without loving pet dogs or dogs for the blind or being able to ride a companion horse sounds like a bleak one to me.

Oh, believe me I will. And I got another one not far behind her. She came from the same mom and dad dog and was always more dependent on me. What am I going to do? More heartbreak. I had no idea the amount of hurt dog ownership was going to bring. No wait - I had no idea the love it was going to bring me! I didn't even like dogs or knew what to do when DH insisted on bringing them home. It changed me.
