I saw Susan Sarandon in the supermarket in the late 80's. She was VERY nasty to a mentally challenged young man who was bagging groceries. 30 years later, I still don't watch her movies. She made me sick that day.

There's a lot of jumping to conclusions on this one (unless I'm missing something). First, how do we know that this employee only started 7 months ago and was in their probationary period? Perhaps they're a long-time employee who just had a lot of call outs in a short period. Also, we don't know what their job is. Maybe it requires mental acuity so that serious/fireable mistakes aren't made. We also don't know the reason for them being unable to sleep. If you're unsure, there's a kinder way of asking questions instead of jumping the gun and being accusatory and assuming the worst of a person. Sheesh.

This is how my brother was, and now he's turned into a super-hoarder. I hope you DH doesn't go down that road, it's awful. Of course, there usually seems to some type of mental illness involved.

But the medical community and society treats all overeating as a mental problem or choice. People who are obese must be lazy or eating to mask some deep seeded issue. And that's not true. As long as it's treated this way, no treatments will be developed or researched. I see tips like, "Don't keep trigger foods in your house." Well, I've driven 25 miles at 3:00 in the morning to the only fast food place open so I can binge. When I was a kid and couldn't drive and didn't have the money, I stole food. I used to pet sit for neighbors just so I could binge on the food in their house. I literally planned my life around my need to eat. It is a living hell. I manage it by bingeing on healthy food now, but I still don't feel in control. At all. I feel like I'm white-knickling it. I don't think people who don't suffer from them truly understand.

I'm sure mental health care would help deter a lot of crime, like child porn, and violence (not just gun violence). And I completely agree we need more and better mental heath care. But that doesn't mean we get rid of all laws because people are just going to break them anyway. Ironically, most people who oppose gun laws also oppose universal heath care, which would actually provide mental heath treatment to everyone.

Part of why I didn't have kids was because of the mental health issues both DH and I have. We didn't want to pass those issues on to our kids and it makes it harder for us to be fully present as parents. We are considering adoption or fostering, but we don't want our genes passed on. Both of us really just...don't really love having to deal with mental health issues. It doesn't feel fair to burden the next generation with that. I don't know if it makes me selfish or what, but I think way too many people just want to pass their genes on for good or for bad.

For years now, I've been just throwing my hair up on the top my head. Messy bun on the weekends, more polished for work. Today I was thinking about how pretty it would be curled, but I don't have a curling iron anymore. I made a mental note to pick one up the next time I went shopping . Later in the day, we went to have dinner at our friends' house. Randomly, my friend mentioned that she had a curling iron she'd used only once for a special occasion and asked if I wanted it!

No one is bashing her. People, myself included, have been gently encouraging her for months to stop bothering this guy, for her sake. The other OP was right, though; if this were a man harassing (which is what it boils down to) a woman, we'd jump down his throat for being a stalker. This has been going on, if my memory is correct, for almost a year. It's time she stopped harassing this poor guy. He obviously is bothered by her harassment, seeing as how he blocked her. I've also been stalked and harassed by an ex. Do you know what it feels like to be on a date with someone new and your crazy ex keeps blowing up your phone? Kinda makes it hard to move on, which is the motive behind the behavior; to keep your ex mentally shackled to you. Being depressed and brokenhearted doesn't make it okay. I agree that she needs therapy, but she has to make that choice.

Men's day is generally used to raise awareness. Just because men are privileged over women doesn't mean there's not a lot of issues to discuss. Men are way more likely to commit suicide, and become homeless. More veterans tend to be male and veterans suffer with a lot of mental health issues. Prison rape is an epidemic which is more likely to affect men and is openly joked about even in kids films. 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused as children which there is less awareness of. I feel like it's pretty tacky to complain about men getting a day to raise awareness in the wake of Leaving Neverland and the issues it's bringing up about adults preying on any child. I hate MRAs because they complain about how women won't sleep with them over any real problems, but let's not pretend all men are the 1% of old white male CEOs who don't wanna share the pie. It benefits us to help everybody in society even if some of us are less privileged. And yes I'm a feminist.

Today was first day of group therapy session for depression. It was refreshing to see some many difference ages/ethnicities. There were two youngish guys from a similar background to me and I'm really glad they were there. The stigma around mental health in my culture is still so prevalent especially for men and being seen as "weak."
