When they say stress makes you gain weight, it is no joke. My dad lost 20 lbs just in the last few months now that he is able to sleep through the night and get some time to relax. He was my mom's caretaker for years and it was really taking a toll on him. I'm glad he's doing better health-wise now though. I don't want to lose both my parents young.

Oh, for sure men are the weaker sex. My DH may be able to lift more weight than me, but he couldn't live on his own if I died tomorrow. Same with his dad. And I'm terrified of my dad's situation now that my mom is in assisted living--his house is a serious pit and he should be cleaning it and selling it. However, when my grandpa died, my grandma sold all her stuff and downsized to a senior living community and made a lot of new friends. I just think women are way more action-oriented most of the time than men are and we are the ones who truly keep the house running.

I lost 70 pounds and have kept it off for about 5 years. That's a lot of weight on my 5'1" frame. I am now a very healthy weight. You would think I'd be thrilled, but I'm not. Honestly, I looked better when I was obese. I look good in clothes, but my body looks like a deflated balloon. The skin on my stomach hangs down. it also sags over the waist of my pants. I live in a hot climate, so Spanx when it's 100 degrees is not really practical, so I just wear oversized shirts. I can literally fold my breasts in half. They are like pancakes. My thighs look like they belong on a 90 year old woman. I hate it. I hate that I will never be comfortable in my body. I workout all the time, cardio and weights, but it doesn't do anything for extra skin. The only solution is surgery, which is upwards of $70,000. I don't have $70K. FML

I always wonder what the people on "600 lb Life" eat when they claim they are sticking to the 1200 calorie a day diet but don't lose the weight Dr. Now wants them to. They have to be overeating by a lot, but it's sad to me that they don't realize just how much they consume in a day.

me too, yes, I lift weights, but not that heavy. same as 60157 - I work to feel it the next day - I like that feeling. I think my body type is not that strong/barrell/built - and I don't want it to be, I just want stamina and ability to do self defence, and ability to remain independent in late age. And as stated, I don't go to the gym every day at all - I go 1-3x /week and I walk an hour a day in my commute.

Yep, I lift weights. Not crazy heavy weights, but enough that I feel it the next day. I also belong to a boxing gym. If you've never done any kickboxing, it's a hella tough workout. Still can't eat that much.

Wow, you guys who maintain on 1300ish calories a day--do you lift weights at all?? I swear that's the only reason I can eat closer to 2000 a day and maintain my weight at 110 when I'm 5'3". I'm also talking more about the YouTube fitness people who are built like brick houses and claim they only eat 1300 calories a day. The only one I think is honest is Stephanie Buttermore. Most of the other ones must just not lift as much or they eat more and don't want to admit it.

Went to my endo yesterday got mostly good news. The issue is ALWAYS weight loss. My issue is I’m a carb addict. I’d rather eat some chips or a sandwich than a meal. So I decided to change my ways. Today I journaled everything I ate. 1364 calories, 52 carbs, and 80 ounces of water. Good start I guess.

1400-1600 calories per day is my range for weight maintenance. I am neither overweight nor super skinny. I do a fair amount of walking and biking but I'm not an athlete nor do I hit the gym frequently. I come from a long line of farmers. If you see photos of my ancestors, a lot of them looked pretty sturdy. Not a skinny one in the bunch! They likely worked very hard. Lots of physical labor. And no one had McDonald's or protein bars or lots of snacking. I highly doubt my relatives were consuming several thousands' worth of calories per day. I mean, on a good day, perhaps. Maybe at a wedding or some kind of special occasion, they probably indulged. And I know they enjoyed their bread and potatoes. But I do believe people highly overestimate how much fuel a body needs to sustain itself.

I am 5'1" tall and workout 5 days a week (burning about 500 calories each time, per my heart rate monitor and calculator). If I ate 1900 calories a day, I'd weigh 200 pounds. I usually come in at about 1300 calories a day. And that's just to maintain my weight, which is 123 pounds, so not even all that low. If you can eat 1900 a day, great. But not everyone can.
