My family is all about the 'it is worth a lot!' mindset. Most of them see shopping as a hobby. So they have to believe that shopping is really a form of investment, otherwise they just have a bad habit. Antique doll houses, Star Trek memorabilia, Hallmark ornaments, Barbies, Match Box cars, comic books - the amount of money spent on this stuff (and the money spent on storing it all!) is astounding. Since I am the youngest, I am the person they come to when they need to sell stuff when they realize they are broke. It breaks my heart to see how little money they get, compared to what they spent.

I can’t stand our dog. She loves her dogsitter and her dogsitter calls the dog “her heart” and lets her sleep in her bed. If it were just me and DH, I’d give her to the dogsitter. But my kids would be heartbroken, so I keep the dog to avoid breaking my kids’ hearts.

There’s no need to kick people when they’re down. Damn, if you’re going to be heartless, just pass by them on the other side of the street instead of pausing to kick them.

It’s been almost 20 years. We were just teenagers and we live on opposite sides of the world now. I know you think that since I’m married now, and we don’t talk, I’ve forgotten you. But I always think about you, BT. Especially in April. It will be 20 years on the 9th. I want to tell you I hope you’re happy even though I know we can never be together again. I’ll always think of you and remember you with a smile on my face and happiness in my heart.

I loved the Roseanne reboot! Can't wait to tune in every week. It reminds me of my high school days and watching it with my then-sweetheart. I love the one liners and the snarkiness. I hate politics though, a joke here and there is fine but nothing more.

I disagree. Problems with Medicaid are not THE problem that needs to be addressed. Hospitals kicking people out after three days is a a problem, yes. It's not THE problem. People dying because they don't have the money to see a doctor in the first place is THE problem, IMO. People going without their needed meds because they can't afford them is THE problem, IMO. People stitching themselves up at home because they don't want to go into debt (and YES this happens, and often) is the THE problem. I've been on Medicaid. It wasn't perfect, but I never had deep-seated worry that if I get sick or injured I'll either die or go bankrupt. Like I do now. Now that I make enough money to not qualify for assistance but not near enough to buy health insurance. I'd LOVE to go back on Medicaid. I'd pay higher taxes for that in a heartbeat. "THE problem." Psh. I don't think so. At all.

The last time I saw my MIL she was at the end of her life with Alzheimer's. I did her hair for her, and her nails. I helped her to dress. That helped her keep her dignity at the end, even if she didn't know it. I was proud to do it for her. Did I hope in my heart that she wouldn't suffer much longer? Yes.

I'm watching that show "Nailed it" on Netflix and it's both depressing and heartening at the same time. I know I can never do the fancy stuff on Pinterest, but it's nice to know that other people screw it up just as badly. It does sort of deter me from wanting to actually take on those projects though.

You sound like a person with no compassion or empathy. Why do you go get your hair done? To look good and to feel better? Even if she is older and uses the bathroom in her depends she deserves a little pampering every now and then. You may see her as a burden because of your little black heart but others may not. I hope if I ever become immobile and defecate on myself that others still see me as a person and do small things to keep my spirits up in my situation.

My brother was my first friend, and he is still my best friend. But he has gained a lot of weight and is 100+ pounds overweight. I love him no matter what, but he is turning 50 this year. I am so, so terrified that something will happen to him. Our dad died of a heart attack, and I am so scared that my brother will too. I never say anything to him, because I used to be overweight too. I know how hard it is. He knows. Saying something isn't going to help. I just hope he's ready to get healthy before it's too late.
