Elderly people can be so judgmental. Especially my parents who sit in their filthy house all day and criticize everyone And yes I do clean the house for them, it is a disaster again in a week. I grew up in a dirty house, now I can't stand it.

Sis's thought processes seem to be getting worse and worse. She has mental issues and I can see if we keep going down this road, we're not going to have a relationship anymore. She's' already run off her best friend and husband. She won't make a decision without consulting several psychics and she believes everything they say. So far I don't believe any of them has been right. There's a point when I just can't pretend that she's acting normal anymore. That makes her mad. Anyone have pointers about how to interact with a mentally screwed-up person?

Omg, my neighbors... I gotta vent. The DH is 66 and his wife is 39. She's his fourth wife. He married her after he cheated with her on wife #3, and she ended up pregnant. She has some hefty neurological issues from doing meth and literally getting her head stomped on by her ex bf. She is mentally about 13 y/o. The DH just had a stroke and caught Dw sexting with a guy in another state. She wants to leave. They have a 7 y/o son. DH and I have been helping them by doing yard work, taking them food, watching their son, etc. We're trying to be there for them, while maintaining a healthy distance, but holy crap. What a mess. Makes me grateful for my life.

RubberCity, I respectfully disagree. I think promoting an "us versus them" mentality isn't good for the country. I think talking/listening to people who have the opposite viewpoint of you is exactly how to win the next election. Calling people/beliefs names (like Faux News), and assuming people who don't agree with you are wrong/lying isn't helping anyone. Now, if that relative you don't want in your home is being racist/sexist, that is a fine reason for not extending an invitation. But if they want Trump in the White House because they want to be able to afford medical care and have a job, there is a lot of room for intelligent discussion.

Resistance part three. Realize right wingers are consumed with fear and anxiety due to them believing Trump and Faux News. Mentally they want America to be in the 1950's. Shun their irrational mindset and their false memes. Focus on you, your relationships and friendships, and your family. Be smarter and sharper.

I'm curious to learn about mindfulness, neuroscience, emotional intelligence and how it plays into one's mental strength. I learned about an upcoming leadership conference on said topics, applied for scholarship and got it! I saved something like $1,000 on registration. Holy cow, I'm so excited!! I think I can use my work professional development funds on it, too!

I hardly see my best friend any more. We literally grew up together. Our grandparents and parents were friends, so we've known each other our whole lives. But I just can't stand her kids. They are horrible and out of control. They have no developmental issues, they're just entitled jerks. They will literally run into a restaurant and start ripping menus in half and laugh about it. She knows they're horrible. But she also knows it's pretty much her fault. She talk and yell until the cows come home but there are absolutely no real consequences for anything they do. And they act 100 times worse when they are with their parents than when they are with someone else. It sucks because I really miss her.

Stormy and OP, it might interest you to look up topographical disorientation, also known as topographical agnosia. Not everyone's brain has the ability to mentally 'map' their surroundings. There are people who literally get lost inside a store. They aren't dumb, or not paying attention, or immature. It has nothing to do with gender. There is a special part of the brain that does nothing but maps, and not everyone's works. There are a lot of coping mechanisms, but not leaving the house isn't one of them. But having a trusted person be able to track you can be a great help. Getting directions for a nearby gas station or using a map often isn't helpful for people who have this disorder. And like every health issue (mental or otherwise), there are various levels of of it. If OP has it, I'm guessing she isn't very high up on the scale - getting lost in Detroit is pretty easy to do!

Wow, we're paying for obesity huh? We're also paying for smokers. And people who drink too much. And people who hurt themselves doing dumb things while drunk. And people with early-onset osteoporosis due to eating disorders. And people with compromised organs due to drug abuse. And people who with mental health issues due to their upbringing or sometimes brain chemistry or other factors. Who should we blame next? No one should get healthcare unless we can prove you obtained this illness through no fault of your own?

My mom only had 1 boyfriend, my dad, and married him. He turned out to be an asshole with untreated mental disorder. She always screams at and about him because he is a complete douche. Before I got married, I experienced real love (from DH and others) but now DH has turned out to be a complete asshole. I don’t know which fate is worse-mine or my mom’s. She probably wonders what real love is like, while I know and I know I don’t have it anymore.
