I went to the doctors for a physical and the nurse said, " Wow, you've really been packing on the pounds since your last visit! Your bmi is almost in the overweight range. Quit slacking on your exercise regimen." I lost about 150 pounds three years ago, and got down to 125. In the last year I've put on about 10 pounds of muscle. I finished an ironman this month, I'd hardly call that slacking. What gives the nurse the right to say that?

frangipani: Just read your comment on my post about stopping BC pills. Thank you for your smart ass comment but nope, not gonna have a baby. The last I checked, the pill is not the only form of BC. My mom has been a GYN nurse for 30 years so I'm pretty aware of all my options. Thanks for your concern anyways. Have a great day.

On the topic of IQs, my husband has and IQ of 149. He has an encyclopedic memory and carried a 4.0 gpa in college. He is the first to admit though that when it comes to anything technical, he isn't the brightest bulb in the pack. When I was studying to be a nurse, he couldn't make sense of all the realistic problem solving that was involved with patient care. His brain just works totally different than mine. So, my IQ may be lower than his, but he says all the time that I'm more "clever" than he is. Hooray for differences!

I work in a doctor's office and most of the delays are caused by patients. Sometimes it is the doctor and or nurse fault but usually not. Each type of visit is slotted for certain length on the schedule. Patients will schedule an appointment for a certain type of visit or one ailment but when they get to see the doctor they have 5 things wrong with them or tell the doctor long drawn out stories that are usually nothing to do with their visit. If that doctor tried to hurry the visit then he would be tagged with bad bedside manners. If you schedule an appointment for a cold don't go in and want to discuss the cold, your blood pressure meds, pain in your leg, medications you seen in a commercial, your diet and refills for other meds. If you want to do all that at one visit make sure you let the receptionist know so they can schedule accordingly. Many times patients will schedule an appointment for themselves then their spouse comes with them to the appointment. Once both get to the room then the spouse starts talking about their ailments as well and they were never scheduled to be seen and they want the doctor to give them a free visit since they came in with the patient. The same thing happens with parents and their children. Be respectful of your doctor and other patients when being seen.

I work in a nursing home with some of the most vulnerable people you can imagine. Technically company policy is "if you are ill, do not come to work". Here's the reality. If you are a nurse or a CNA and you call out sick you are guilted to the enth degree. You are made to feel like complete shit. You are harrassed repeatedly to come in because they are short staffed. And FORGET about calling out more than one day....you are in danger of being 'written up' Yeah, that's right...written up for being sick! SO I am very sorry I came to work with my runny nose and upset stomach, but gues what? I need my job.

Ds sleeps with me. I tried to get him to sleep in his crib but has not having it... He would sleep for a few hours and wake up and not go back to sleep on his crib no matter how hard I tried since the day we brought him home. Partially at dh's request and partially to keep from losing my shit on him I slowly started just sleeping in another room with ds. Dh was constantly complaining about how my getting in and out of bed to attend to our child kept him up all night (not once did he offer, or act like he was awake IF he actually was) and eventually was so loud with normal things that ds would wake up before I even got a chance to lay in bed. He was also leaving his stuff ALL OVER the bedroom. I lost count of how many times I've had to move his stuff out of my only path to the door (his clothes took up pretty much all of the floor on my 2ft wide path of carpet between the bed and wall) so I started making him clear me a path every night and still, he'd throw things around after I went to bed or if he got up at night. After I started sleeping in the nursery (on our guest bed) he just let his shit take over. I can't open my side of the closet, there's barely any visible carpet except from the door to his side of the bed. It's like some teenaged slob lives in our bedroom. I've told him a dozen times now that ds is a little older and isn't doing too bad in his toddler bed at nap time that if he kept the bed room clean enough for me to walk through in the dark without breaking a toe, or my neck, I would try harder to get him to sleep on his own. We talked today and he tells me "you know... The bedroom is only sloppy because I have no reason to keep it clean." 1. It's disgusting... No adult should be ok with this level of mess, especially one who claims to be a neat freak to the point of calling it OCD (he's not, he can clean when he wants to but he's a slob the rest of the time) and 2. It feels like he doesn't want me back in our room. I can't get into my closet, my dresser is only reachable because it's on his side of the bed and he has covered the top of it with his crap. He also keeps trying to steal my dirty clothes hamper. He has 4 laundry baskets burried somewhere in there... He can't have this one too! And we can't share because I'm not allowed to do his laundry (I'm fine with that, he doesn't like the way I wash things or something) but that'd mean the hamper would just slowly fill with his dirty laundry until it has been claimed by his crap and I can't use or find it anymore.

Tonight I'm supposed to be graduating from nursing school. Instead I found out that I failed a class by 1% point. Failing a class means I'm kicked out of the program and have to start all over somewhere else if I want to be a nurse. I don't even know how I'm going to tell my son. I'm a single mom and this was supposed to be our ticket to a better life.

My mom got me hooked on Nurse Jackie over spring break. It makes me wish I would have become a nurse instead of a teacher.

My dad is ill and the nurse estimated that he less than 6 months. I knew it was coming since his decline is obvious, but there is really no way to prepare for the loss. :( I love you daddy.

I'm 27 and am already making plans for my mother's long term care. I don't know what I'd do without her. I don't know how I can care for her. I'd have to give up my job, but I just landed my dream job and got married under a year ago. My Mom insists to live with us rather than have nurses come to her home.
