The complaint that bugs me- that my DH makes because he's DD16's stepdad- is that she treats him poorly because she's not his biological daughter. And we're not talking about big stuff here. If he tells her to clean the kitchen, half hour later she's still up in her room listening to music. He asks her to remember to feed the ducks after school every day, and the very next day she forgets. He takes it so personally, like it's because he's 'just a step-parent'. He did the same thing with DS20 when he lived at home. What he doesn't get is that this has nothing at all to do with him being a step-parent. It has to do with DD being a teenager! She does the same shit to me. I mean, he took her to her first day of pre-school. He's been in her life since she was two years old. At what point does the 'it's because I'm a step-parent' argument become invalid? Ever? (I'm not trying to be sarcastic - I'm actually asking for opinions.) I've never been a step-parent, and I've never had one either. So I truly am curious.

I found a dying roach in my kitchen sink today. I recently got some boxes from amazon and went grocery shopping, so I am sure it came from one of those two things, but I feel so gross. I ended up scrubbing the counters/backsplash etc. I am a clean person, I can't imagine I have them. =(

I hate clutter and it kind of makes me sick to see people with garages filled floor to ceiling with old toys and games no one ever plays with, decorations no one ever uses. I know one family that has an entire room filled with old kitchen appliances. What the hell?

I am very careful not to constantly correct my husband's way of doing thing while caring for our baby. I will go in the kitchen when he is cooking though lol. That drives him insane!

My SIL has the kiddos make homemade butter for Thanksgiving every year. They don't use a blender though, they stand around shaking tupperware until it turns into butter. There might be more to it than that, but that's all I observe since I'm usually busy cooking the bird and other necesseties. I don't know that there's much of a difference in taste but it shuts them up and keeps them from running around in the kitchen all day trying to "help" (but they don't want to actually help with anything I need help with, like the dishes or setting the table, just stuff they don't have the attention span for) and I appreciate that!

So she said that her bulimic ex would freely purge into the kitchen sink as she was cooking dinner. In front of the kids too. I just can't get this out of my mind. So horrible. So dysfunctional. I'm so glad she eventually got out, but horrified for all involved that they had to deal with that train wreck asshole for as long as they did.

The flowers are nice. Thank you. But you know what I really want for Valentine's Day (and my birthday, and Christmas, and our anniversary...)? I want you to load the dishwasher a few times a week. I want you to do laundry more than once a decade (and not just your own clothes). I want you to appreciate and acknowledge the fact that you may work more hours a week than I do, but I am literally out of the house doing something for our kids or family (scouts, my own job, school functions, grocery shopping, etc.) way more hours a day than you are. So when I still have to come home after being gone for 10 hours and make dinner, do laundry, pack lunches, and clean the kitchen, I get bitter and resentful, especially if you are sitting on the couch reading the paper while I do it. But if I say something, then I'm a nag. If you really love me, then be a true partner. Otherwise you're just telling me that you only love me enough to take 15 minutes out of one day to pick up some flowers.

I used to wait tables and there was this horrible old man who used to come in with his passive meek little wife. He'd raise his finger at you and say, "I have a five dollar tip for you! BUT...if you make mistakes I'll deduct from that bit by bit!" So if you forgot to heat up his soup properly ( he demanded it be microwaved so that it was "piping" hot!) that was a dollar you were docked. If you took too long to bring him this food (usually the kitchen's fault, not mine) that was a dollar docked. I finally told him just to not tip me at all, then I woudln't be stressed out about it. He didn't think that was funny and reported me. From then on someone else got to wait on that asshole.

My friends know better than to try to sell me Pampered Chef, Scentsy, 31 bags or any of that crap. It's all overpriced for what it is and the sales pitches are annoying. Why should I have to sit and listen to a pitch when I can buy perfectly good kitchen supplies at a regular retail outlet, where returns are generally simple, quality is better, you can find awesome sales and no one pressures you to become part of the icky cult?
