I used to have a friend who had been a teen mom, and was an over-the-top born again Christian. She dropped it when her own daughter got pregnant at 15. She also acted like it was the greatest thing ever. I remember feeling sick at the baby shower, with all of the Winnie the Pooh things, thinking, "A baby is having a baby." It is SHE, of course, who is raising the baby. I dropped her as a friend because I couldn't take the hypocrisy. She used to criticize me hard for drinking and going out dancing, and now here she was doing it herself. I then learned that her daughter had a 2nd child at the age of 20 (different father; the first one was killed in a home robbery), and she's happily raising that one, too.

Oh, FFS. It's not video games. Japan is the largest consumer of video games in the world, and you know how many gun deaths they have a year? Well, in 2017, it was 3. Yes, 3. Oh, it's also not a Christian country, so that no prayer in schools thing as a cause is bullshit too. And they have mentally ill people, just left every other country. After a rash of mass shootings, Australia passed strict gun control laws and did buy-backs of guns. And shootings were basically eliminated. Suicides decreased significantly too. The gun-toting, republican, 'Merica assholes need to get their head out of their ass.

When I was in high school, I attended a very conservative church and they pushed us teens to attend Christian universities. I went to a public Big Ten University and they pretty much disowned me for it. Said I was going to become an athiest and have all sorts of horrible things happen to me. It's very weird the stuff they try to tell you in the church.

Three of my five grandkids were homeschooled. One joined the military because he couldn’t pass the placement test for a local junior college, one got his 17-year-old GF pregnant and is now living with her and her mom and working fast food, and one is trying to decide if he’s gay or not, so lays in bed most of the day thinking about it. They were homeschooled for religious and bigot reasons (‘shouldn’t be around blacks, gays, or non-Christians’) by a mother who barely graduated from high school. All have been told they have a form of dyslexia and function accordingly. Just one reason I am TOTALLY against homeschooling by other than certified teachers.

So our company is pretty small and run by a Christian zealot who insists we have a company "character lunch" once a month where we have to listen to our CEO give a mini-sermon about how to improve our work ethics, etc. It's nauseating and we have to attend unless we are on PTO that day. At least it's on company time because if it wasn't, I would NOT be going.

I used to be friends on FB with some people that I grew up going to church with. I noticed that whenever I would post anything about my family and/or my struggles in life, they ignored my posts. But the second I posted anything even remotely political, they were the first to attack me with the whole "Christians should support Trump!" bullshit. So that is why I unfriended them and this is the big problem with the church and why I no longer attend that church.

Well, those women would still be breaking the law according to the NY law. The law ONLY allows doctors to do it if the mother's health is in danger or the fetus is nonviable. It's not like women are going to be able to legally terminate a baby at 36 weeks just because it's legal now. That is what the Christian Right is trying to say-that it's just going to be so easy for women to go abort healthy full term babies because of this law. And if you carry a baby almost to term and want to terminate at the end after all that, well, I think that the judgment for that is on them. I would think most women in a situation like that would give the baby to the hospital for adoption and not kill it.

Thank you for saying this. I've always been creeped out by christianity. I don't really have a reason why; churches, and what takes place within them, has just always been really unsettling to me. I think I must have been tried by the church and executed as a witch in a past life.

I've seen creepier shit in movies, of course, but in real life? By far and away the creepiest shit I've ever witnessed is Christian chanting. Dimly lit rooms full of people led by creepy dudes in robes, all chanting in unison as if they're in a trance or something. I almost got up and ran out of a Lutheran church once during a funeral. The candles and the chanting. It was very 'Rosemary's Baby'. It was so f*cking creepy. And the Catholics? With the in-unison hail Mary thing? *shudder* It's cool for them or whatever, but man I find it scary and creepy. I cannot understand how people find that kind of thing comforting.

Conservatives love to cling to the myth that there's a war on Christmas. A war on Christianity. A war on men. A war on white people. All because when marginalized groups gain rights, they feel slighted. Like women saying they don't want to be raped means that every man on the planet is being attacked. Or when black people ask the police to stop killing them, we get dumb shit like #bluelivesmatter. And then they wonder why they get called privileged, racist, misogynistic, ethnocentric, etc.
