I live in the UK and it's a joke here too.If you need anything other than SSRIs, then you're screwed. Addictions, personality disorders, neurodivergent conditions like ADHD/Autism, anything that SSRIs cant treat, you're screwed. Even if you're suicidal there's years long waiting lists for therapies. I have BPD, which they do have medications which can at least help a bit, but they refuse to give them in the UK. I ended up having a huge fight with my GP because if they're not going to give me meds and they are "unable" to give me therapy in their words, they're basically leaving me with nothing...and borderline personality disorder carries the highest suicide rate of any mental illness. They're basically signing off on people's death warrants. Of course, BPD affects women more than men so there's also the medical misogyny at play. Then they wonder why society seems to be getting more and more unstable.

Yeah, that's called correlation. I'm a dermatologist, and there's nothing magical about olive oil. Like the OP said, genetics, lifestyle, these all play a factor. If you're lucky enough to look 35 at 50, then trust me, it ain't the olive oil. The antioxidants may play a small role in improving your skin, but not even Tretinoin has that kind of power. Stress, lifestyle, genes, race (and therefore amount of melanin in the skin), environmental pollutants, all play a large role if we're talking "natural" factors as opposed to Botox etc. The only skincare item that truly makes a huge difference is sunscreen, and even then of course the importance of that depends on your skin's tone and how much natural protection you have (but still, wear sunscreen.) Also, olive oil can cause acne in a lot of folks, even older folks.

100% agree. The one and only time I ever tried to get help, through a community organization because health insurance doesn't cover mental health, and OMG. The first session I told the guy my mother died when I was little. And I was struggling to leave a toxic relationship. Second session? Start talking about said toxic relationship and the guy told me to go live with my mother. And he was looking at the notes he had taken at the first session too. I never went back. OH! OH! And also, they sent me a bill for several hundred dollars for the sessions even though I signed up through a community outreach free thing. Lovely. You're 100% correct.

You know how they tell you if you're struggling with your mental health, to "reach out for help?" Yeah, it's just fucking gaslighting. because there ain't none where I live, even pre-pandemic.

So over all this fake mental health awareness crap. People post memes without giving a flying fuck. They don't have time for people in their life who need help, they don't think how their shitty actions affect others. This society is one big fucking joke, nothing but inspirational memes while everyone ignores each other on their phone. Fuck all of this

Respectfully, I disagree. I think we're more than willing to cut people off for even the most minor of inconveniences. We're even praised for doing so. But nobody wants to talk about the aftermath and consequences of cutting people out of your life. My mental health is no better than it was before, and my mom was abusive and did cause me to be suicidal. Everything she did to me affects my every day decisions even when I don't want it to. Obviously, everyone experiences things differently, but it's important to highlight the bad parts as well as the good.

Both of my grown kids hate me and won't talk to me. My 21 year old son still lives with ex in the family home. Judge ordered the house to be put on the market October 1st and sold. Ever since then my ds won't talk to me. 31 year old dd has a 2 year old and is married. I told her I'd watch granddaughter and ended up 3 days later telling her I couldn't because I wasn't feeling good. She called me a flake, cussed at me, and said, "Now you have 2 kids that won't talk to you." So hurtful with her sharp tongue. I've been through 2 surgeries (appendix removed and hysterectomy) since moving out of the family home in November 2019. This divorce has dragged on for a year and a half, ex is an alcoholic and irate, my mental health isn't great but I've been going to Al-anon and therapy since 2017. I'm trying. I just started taking adderall for chronic fatigue syndrome. So many things. I love my kids and miss the life/relationship I used to have with them. I also live 30 minutes away from them now.

H asked me what expectations I have for him and our over a decade marrIage. I told him the truth, which is that I have none. I choose to wake up and be happy and handle every day as it happens instead of setting myself up for disappointment by expecting things to meet some arbitrary mental standard. And he got mad! Said "How am I supposed to meet your expectations and be awesome if you don't expect anything from me?" Dude, I don't know. Why do I need to take on the mental load of making you be a better person in addition to everything else I do? Why can't you just be whatever "awesome" person you think you should be without me telling you to do it? Fucks sake. And men think women are complicated. Smh.

First off, we KNOW we're not going to see any money. Come on, when have we (citizens) ever? Secondly, please don't lump all Americans together if you can manage that. I know it's a tall order, but we're not all like that. I get why citizens of other countries might have that mentality but it's fallacious. Some of us are still sane.

Has anyone struggled when thinking through their childhood to figure out if you had an abusive parent or not? Not physically, but mentally and emotionally. Part of me thinks if I have to ask myself that question, it's probably abuse. The other part just thinks I'm exaggerating, but I know a lot of victims tend to think that way because they are gaslit.
