I don't like how fast technology is evolving. From the robots taking more jobs, information coming at you so fast endlessly, self driving cars, the "internet of things". I feel like humanity is on a slow march to a Idiocracy and Matrix like existence. Everyone is so nonchalant about it too. Like sure no big deal, let's make society so no one has to ever leave their house for anything they need, if we need a car, we have to let a computer first know where we are going. We probably won't even have any lawns in the future and kids won't even know what playing outside your own house is like. "Get off my lawn!" will no longer make sense! *Shakes angry fist at the Cloud server.

I'm more science-minded than anyone I know who is not an actual scientist - but I'm not particularly fond of most technology. I'm also a creationist. I believe dinosaurs roamed the earth. I know that witches (Wiccans) are real, and so is Hoodoo and Magick. My political views lean to the conservative side, but I also fight for Social Justice, LGBT rights and environmental protection. I prefer holistic rather than traditional medicine. My views come partly from childhood and partly from decades of worldwide travel & experiences. I'm either well-rounded and open-minded, a complete anomaly, or just psycho. Have at it.

A press release (Business Wire, January 21st 2016) published by marketwatch.com says that Technavio, one of the leading technology research and advisory companies in the world predicts that pharmaceutical corporations who produce vaccines will reach an estimated $61 billion in profits by 2020. Big pharma is making plenty off of these vaccines.

It's Earth Day and I am so depressed. I don't know why, but I get annoyed with everyone taking one day to actually GAF about the environment when they drive huge SUVs and use weed killers so their lawns don't get dandelions. The whole Trump administration is just icing on the cake because they want us to go back to the 1950s with how we dealt with waste and emissions. I should be optimistic because technology is amazing and I think we will be able to survive without fossil fuel, but it's not looking good to me right now.

I dated a much-older guy about 15 years ago and he did not have email, used an old typewriter to type on and did not carry or want a cell phone. He poo-poo'd anything on the internet. He truly looked down on anyone who utilized this technology, which I found not only strange but hypocritical. I once joked that we should sell our cars and get horses and buggies and live off the land but he was not amused by that.

I could not agree more OP! My dad was anti-tech for a long time, saying he's too old. Dude-you are 65, in great shape and your family is known to live into the upper 90's. I was like you have lots of time to enjoy new technology!! He finally got wifi and I got him a tablet,

My BIL loves to buy expensive electronics and other unnecessary crap. Well, now he's starting to realize that life gets expensive and he's finally starting to watch his money. It sort of feels good to see him finally realize that you can't just buy whatever you want, whenever you want it. You won't die if you don't have the latest and greatest technology every second.

I wonder if some older people just simply refuse to acknowledge new technology or ideas. I was trying to explain to my MIL that a lot of states are starting to charge you for plastic bags at the grocery store and she could not fathom why they'd ever do that. When I explained to her that it was to make people use reusable bags, she insisted that plastic bags are not bad and they're useful. I get that they're useful, but when people use 1000 of them for one little trip to the store, it's wasteful. I just don't thing she understands the point because, as she puts it, they'd NEVER do something like that back in the day!

I just found out that through my university program, I may get to travel to Germany next summer for 2 months to study biodigesters. This is perfect! If I learn the technology, I may be able to get a job there. And my DH is a mechanical engineer with a lot of vehicle experience, so he'd probably get a job pretty easily. This will be my plan of action if Trump gets elected! I can live in Germany!
