I've been married for 11 years. My dh is a nice guy, great father. I have two amazing girls, nice house, yada, yada, yada. I work part-time at a job I love. But I really don't think we'll be married forever. Once my kids are grown and independent, I'm done. As nice as my dh is, I really don't feel like taking care of him forever. There's no way I'm going to end up like my MIL (whom I adore). She and FIL are retired, but she still does everything. Granted, they are pretty well-off, and they take great trips and stuff, but there is no way I'm doing my DH's laundry for the rest of his life. Or cooking for him forever. No way. I'm taking half, and going out on my own.

I don't want to be a receptionist for the rest of my life. I don't want to be a transcriptionist. I want to be an archaeologist and history professor. Dh laughed at me when I told him and didn't believe me. Its too expensive to do, I guess. But I don't want to be unhappy in my job choice forever.

I have the first of two very important, to me, interviews today. I am so excited. Even if I didn't have that black hole of a BIL around... I'm hoping they both offer me the job, I'll take both. One would be teaching me a completely new and useful skill and one would be a job I already know I'll enjoy and thrive in. I didn't want to be in my current job forever and am glad these showed up when they did.

My DH's brother is a big time mooch. He has three siblings and the one brother is the only one like that. I don't know why his parents enable "Brad" to live the soft cushy life he doesn, but DH says it's been like that forever. The rest of them did well in college and have successful careers. Brad decided to travel instead, went to India and Thailand to "find himself" and continue mooching. He now spends his days in his parents' spare bedroom and finsihed basement writing philosophical crap on Facebook, talks about writing a "novel" (Yeah, it's been 30 years of talk) and wrecking their cars. It's going to be a hard road for him when they eventually pass as MIL and FIL told DH they are leaving everything to him and the other three with the stipulation they give "a little here and there" to Brad, knowing that he would just blow through it all if they left him anything. I can't imagine.

Whoever said that the wedding was about the bride was full of it. I had a courthouse wedding and had to push our ceremony by an hour because my mom and her husband didn't start leaving until an hour (they live three hours away) and I know it is because my mom took forever in getting ready. Then, my brother at last minute decided not to show up because he said he wanted to go to some party instead. Then at the wedding my grandmother kept taking pictures when I just wanted to get married already and her husband snapped at us to hurry up and get married because they had to get on the road even though they were the ones who were late! My MIL threw us a BBQ and my mom's side never bothered to even go. When my husband and I were able to have a religious ceremony, we decided to forgo the church with everyone there...it was just he, the pastor and me on the beach. No drama, no guilt trips, just me and him. I had originally planned for a lot of family to be there but realizing the drama involving family (and we were moving to another country in two months after it) changed our mind. I didn't have anyone fawning on me and I was just fine with that.

The lady in front of me at the storee had a huge cart full of food, but apparently only had $190 to spend on her EBT card. So she slowly picked things from the cart and kept asking the cashier what the total was until it was $190. Then she told the cashier to "put the rest back". It just took forever--c'mon, how hard is it to get out your phone or calculator and add prices up as you shop? Grr.

My bedroom art is an oil on canvas original piece by me. It's a mid to late 40's year old woman, standing in the dim lighting at her kitchen's island. She has a look of callous sadness that you can read in the soft topography of aging lines, that map out her loneliness. Her once joyful expressions, now lay hidden under the mount of her furrowed brow. Her right arm is folded across her fleece vested body, running just under her breasts, where it meets the underside of her opposite elbow. As if supporting more things than just her arm, she holds her elbow as her arm has raised her hand to her mouth. There where her fingers almost meet her lips, you see a flash of perfect white front teeth, and with a dangerous looking concise bite, as if cutting through her own regret, she sharply shaves no more than a razor slice of a Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie she holds tight in her fingers. Suspended like that forever, seemingly cemented in her own "what ifs?" The title is, "The Safety of My Discontent". JK I only have a 40x30 boudoir photo of myself.

Im the OP whose dad died and DH is being an ass. He was not always like this.He was so sweet and sensitive when we married just 4 years ago.I did tell him I will stay wherever I want in the house. He went in the spare room and shut the door. Then he came out and offered me some Mucinex. But I will promise everyone that I will NOT stay with him forever if things stay the way they are.I am not going to make any major decisions for a least another month or 2.

The fake "Aw gee shucks this is a joke" holiday newsletter from the narcissistic former friend is beyond. Yup, you got a pet finally. Join the human race. Your adult daughter works? Again, this is not an achievement. If my son wore shorts and a bow tie at an event, your family would make fun of him forever. But when your teenage son does it, it's super cool, right?
