I really wish my MIL would stop comparing my son to her dogs. It annoys the crap out of me. Even worse is he is learning to throw a ball and she says "good boy" and "fetch".

Because he travels a lot for work, dh survives on fast/restaurant food, pizza, hot dogs and the like. I eat mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meats. I exercise moderately (and sometimes hard), he doesn't exercise at all. Guess which one of us has high cholesterol? Grrrr!

New neighbors had a dog. Then they got a new puppy. I heard it crying over there, yesterday and today, it's maybe about 8 weeks. I don't know if they're home. I haven't met them. I'm sure there's a water dish because I saw one last week for their first dog, and that dog is there also. I can't see much into their yard. It's 104 heat index today. What kind of people get a new puppy and leave both dogs out in that kind of heat? They're in a carport, and loose to roam the fenced yard, but still. I'll call animal control, who are famously uninterested in private concerns, if I have to. I don't need this.

Some people actually want older dogs (I adopted my last one when he was 15 & he made it to 22) but yeah, your acquaintance sucks. I'd drop them out of my life.

Yet another one of my acquaintances who claims to be an animal lover got rid of her dog the other day. She put him up for adoption at the humane society because she was having another baby and "two dogs and two kids would be too much work". Yeah, well, in my book you aren't an animal lover then. You got the dogs before you decided to have the kids. The poor dog is 8 years old. You know he won't get a home because no one wants an older dog. It makes me really angry.

Tonights dinner for one was an accomplishment. I tackled Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon!!! Took forever. Need someone to share with. It's too good to feed the dogs. Dinner party anyone?

DH and I are not having kids. Many family members don't understand or believe us. Well, the most amazing thing happened this weekend. We were celebrating some of our niece's and nephew's birthdays. After all the kids open up their gifts, MIL sits a gift bag in my lap. She says, "I wasn't sure when you celebrate birthdays for your kids, but I wanted to get them something." Inside were 4 dog toys (we have 4 dogs). I think she has finally accepted the fact that we're not reproducing. I was shocked and the "kids" loved their gifts from grammy! Lol!

Oh, c'mon, let's face it--not everyone's family is the same when it comes to helping their kids out. If you have a family that is more than willing to let you stay with them while you get back on your feet, you should feel lucky they are so supportive. DH and I each briefly lived with our parents after college until we got married and got an apartment, but our families were awful to live with. His parents charged him rent and made him buy his own food AND expected him to help with any of their farm work at the drop of a hat. Mine expected me to keep the entire house spotless, made me buy my own food, charged me for all the utilities, and expected me to take care of their dogs while I was working full time. Both our parents made it very clear that we were not very welcome to stay there long-term so they tried to make it suck as much as possible. If yours are nice about it, well, you're really lucky.

Dear Commercials and TV shows/movies that decide to use doorbells, especially making them louder than the rest of what I'm watching. My dogs freak out and bark like there's someone at my door. *sigh*

I went a baby shower for my friend today. I love baby showers because I know I'm never having one for myself! I think it's fun to buy other people fun stuff for their kids, though. I love seeing how excited the new mom-to-be is and hoping that she loves being a mom as much as she hopes she will. But yeah...I love knowing it won't ever be me having one. I'll stick with dogs and cats, thanks.
