I do not have to worry about my DH "giving" me $100. Why not? Because I am single, and in a good position financially from investments. I work a full time job at a large very well known company just for the benefits. I cannot imagine being dependent on a man. My father was verbally abusive and my mom could not leave because she quit working as soon as she was pregnant with me and had no up to date skills. When she died my dad was consumed by guilt so now he has mellowed out. And yes he was verbally abusive to me very badly the first few months after she died, even more so than he was with mom. He would yell and scream and swear and point at me with his cane. Now, he in his 80's, in so so health occasionally demanding and unreasonable but has mellowed out and we actually get along. I know he won't be around forever, :( but once he is no longer around, I will be completely done dealing with men.

My DH has a family member who, after going through a tragedy practices positive thinking like you practice religion. While I think that's fine and all for yourself and even when doing it with others in your thoughts who are struggling or going through hard times I feel personally that it can border on rude. A friend of the family member posted on FB (I saw the post because she commented on it) about being suicidal and reaching out to friends for support because of severe depression. I thought that was so brave. The response? 'THINK POSTIVE THOUGHTS AND YOU WILL BE JUST FINE!!!' Like that is going to magically make the friend's depression disappear. Your friend reached out for support and to me that isn't supportive. That is brushing them off because you don't want to hear about their pain. I think there is a difference between saying 'I will think positive for you/pray for you/think about you' and 'positive thinking will make all of your problems go away forever!' The family member did the same thing to me repeatedly when I went from being very sick while pregnant to having a very sick baby. You know what? Positive thinking isn't going to change the medical (or any) issues someone is going through. It is ok to support someone who is depressed or sick or grieving. They don't have to be happy or positive about it. It is ok to actually FEEL your feelings. And if my friend reached out from a deep depression my response would be 'is there anything I can do to help?' Even if it is listening to *GASP* negative thoughts. I just feel like people have become so concerned with making their lives completely happy all of the time that they refuse to really connect with others who need to just cry or vent because it might bring them down in some way. I actually ended my friendship with the family member because they just kept telling me to be grateful/positive because it could be worse and everything was going to be fine. Don't you think your friends and family know that? I KNOW and I'm sure your depressed friend KNOWS that it could be worse. But that doesn't mean that what others are going through doesn't matter because you don't feel it is 'bad enough.' Maybe to that person, in that moment in time it FEELS like the worst, and not everything is always going to be 'fine.' You do not get to determine what is someone else's worst, and then decide that because it isn't as bad as what you went through that they don't get to feel how they feel. My toddler with a chronic lung disease isn't the same as someone else's severe depression. And it doesn't have to be, nor does it have to be worse for me to acknowledge it feels bad for that person. You know why? Because I don't know what it feels like to deal with someone else's problems. And even if I did deal with that same problem I only know how it makes me feel, not them. The whole thing has just really soured me on 'the power of positive thinking,' and I'm not a negative or miserable person. To me it was like constantly having someone stick their fingers in their ears and going 'I can't hear you na na na na naaaaaaaaah' everytime I talked to them.

One of my oldest friends (we're not that close anymore, but I've known her forever) is having her doggie put down today. Should I drop off a card? Flowers? They're having it done at home, so I don't want to drop in such an emotional time, but if I mail it won't get there for a couple of days. Maybe I'll just drive over and leave a card in the mailbox, but not ring the doorbell or anything.

I should say (doctor post) I'm not checked in for an hour at the receptionist desk. I know doctors take forever. Lol

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Growing up my family has always been in debt, so fiscal things are not my biggest strength. DH and I have been living from paycheck to paycheck for what feels like forever. Now we've finally got around $200 in excess a month. I could throw it in a savings or throw it at some bills to pay them off faster. Which is better? We've pretty much cut out all of our luxuries except for Netflix. We even switched to a really cheap cell phone service. Now all of our scrimping is paying off.

Shameless brag... I've been overweight forever. I was finally serious about losing when I got pregnant last year. My baby will be a week old tomorrow and I stepped on the scale today for the first time. I'm down 7lbs from my prepregnancy weight. I can't wait to see the results when I can finally start exercising again.

I set up my 4th online date in 5 days. Then deleted my online profile because I felt like this would be last one before I took a mini-break to refresh. The fourth date tonight felt quite positive! Maybe this was a sign from the universe that things will happen on its own when you let go. He was kind, attentive, and conversation flowed very easily. I felt like I've known him forever and 3 hours flew by before I had to go! We made dinner plans for tomorrow. :) Given my awful relationships in the past, I hope this is a sign of good things to come.

So some little prick posted a picture of himself on Twitter with a sign saying "Prom? If you say no I'll rape you". Not long after he posted a rant about how women can't be raped because a "vagina is meant to accommodate a cock". Nice to know what so many of our young people are growing into...on the plus side that image will be on the internet forever so hopefully future employers will know what they are potentially hiring.

I showed DH the ring I wanted online once when we were dating. He saved a long time and got it for me, because he wanted me to have something I'd always love. I would have married him with any ring, but the thoughtfulness of him truly caring that I got "the one" because I'll wear it forever makes it extra special to me.
