My mom makes me nuts sometimes. My sister and I are super gracious guests. Every time we visit half way though dinner, when we are all discussing something else, she'll say-You girls can clean the kitchen. No kidding. You have only said this on every single visit during every single meal since I moved out 16 YEARS AGO. This summer myself and my kids and my sis & her DH are going back to visit for a week. The first thing she says to my sister is-Well-you can buy some groceries. Not-yay for family fun. Nothing. And the crazy part is we always pitch in-buy food, change sheets after leaving, wash dishes, don't leave messes. We are super gracious guests. I swear, I don't get what goes on in that head of hers. Goodness, I HOPE I am not like that when I grow older.

The whole "the mistress owes you nothing" line couldn't be more ignorant. What happened to respect and common decency for our peers? Saying that she doesn't owe anyone anything sounds to me like someone who doesn't take responsibilities for their actions because they think they're a special snowflake. This whole world is "me me me me me, screw everyone else, I'm going to do what I want." If a chick wants to get with my husband, fine...but I will do everything in my power to ruin her life (and his) in every legal way possible....because, ya know....I don't owe her anything either. :) If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

An old friend of mine used to complain about our dog looking a her while she ate. The dog didn't whine, bed, or paw at her. She didn't snif at her plate or try to take her food. She just sat nearby and looked. We don't mind the dog being in the kitchen when we eat. If she bugs us we just say Out! and point to the door. After 1 or 2 reminders she settles down. It works for us. I'm not going to train my dog to behave a certain way, and reinforce it every single day all day long, because this friend comes over, what, twice a year? Actually she doesn't come over at all anymore because I don't invite her. She's a real crab apple. She complained about the dog sniffing her shoe. WTF. You know what's rude? Complaining about things that aren't a big deal.

My fiancé has been down lately because we live in an RV and "there is supposed to be more to life". I told him "RV life isn't ideal for most people. But we have a roof over our heads. We have heat and A/C. We have a queen sized bed. We have two flat screen TVs. We have cable and wifi. We have a kitchen w/a fridge, sink, oven, stove, and microwave. We have a toilet and shower." We may not live in a house but we have more than a lot of people have and we worked for it. Yes, our house has wheels but we are independent and we have everything we need/want. If people think we are redneck or trashy, oh well. I'd rather be a stereotype than have a home loan we cannot afford like a lot of other people our age. And there are people out there that would do anything to live in an RV instead of in a shelter or in a box or under a bridge. Redneck or not, I AM GRATEFUL.

When my son was one and a half, I left him sitting at one of those little kiddie tables in our kitchen, coloring. I stepped out onto our back sun porch. He was three feet away. I finished digging through a box and sniffed, thinking I smelled brownies. THAT's weird. I walk in the kitchen and stare. Here's what I walked in to see: My son sitting on the kitchen counter. A bottle of vegetable oil spilled all over. He was covered head to toe in the stuff, and had his hands stuffed in a big tall glass. His hands were stuck and he couldn't get them out. He had banged open my hot chocolate K-cups into the oil, so of course it smelled like brownies. He couldn't get his hands out, so we just stared at each other. I slowly pulled out my cell, took a picture, and texted it to DH. How are toddlers SO destructive?!

I was talking about paint earlier and my messed up kitchen. Wow, I am so seriously sorry that someone was offended by my post! Uh, no it was not the most serious thing I had to complain about. Did you not read my earlier post? I had just gone through a seperation. Money was tight and wow, I just wanted my place to look nice. I couldn't get it right and was wasting hard earned money on paint. It sucked. Sorry if you think my plight wasn't worth complaining about. And honestly, I was being pretty light hearted with my confession.

My worst decor disaster was when I tried to paint my kitchen a bright color. I was going through a divorce and I thought bright colors would cheer me up. I had an orange kitchen...then a bright cherry red kitchen...then a screaming yellow kitchen. THe horror! I just couldn't seem to get it right. And paint is not cheap, I'd try to live with it for a while because I hated wasting all that time and money. After many many coats of paint I went back to neutrals.

Don't feel bad about hating your kitchen floor...we once did a kitchen remodel and I hated everything about it. A WHOLE REMODEL and when it was almost done I suddenly realized I hated the whole thing. I was like WHAT WAS I THINKING??? It was too stark, too modern and cold. I tried to warm it up with paint and pictures and accessories but I hated it. Haaaaaated it. When we moved I was thrilled.

I hate our new kitchen floor, dammit! I was so excited for it. I thought the samples looked good. I thought I liked the color. DH spent all weekend installing it. And I hate it. DAMN

Dh is convinced there's something rotting in the kitchen. He has been complaining for a couple of months now. Every time (untilrecently) he said something I would scrub the entire kitchen while he was at work. This includes all the cabinets, the fridge, microwave, sink, and dish washer. I am convinced it is the trash can... It's the only thing I don't clean and almost every time he says something is within a minute or two of me opening and closing the lid. The inside looks spotless, I think the plastic just absorbs odors or something, and the trash has gotten very stinky before because he refuses to do the one chore I ask of him which is to take the trash out at least once every day. He swears it's not the trash... It smells like rotting meat and he can smell it all over the apartment. I have never been able to smell this odor while in the kitchen let alone anywhere else in the apartment. He finally makes a big deal about how he's gonna clean the kitchen this weekend so I let him know that I just cleaned it on Monday and he gets kind of rude and tells me he's going to use chemicals... Since ds was born (2 years ago) I've been adamant that we use natural cleaners. He likes to put everything in his mouth, and I've watched him lick the kitchen floor more than once. Dh still does it when I'm not around and gives me stupid excuses. But I'm mainly the one who cleans and IF i use bleach, like when I know dh dropped raw chicken on the counter and didn't do anything about it I make sure that after I wipe everything with bleach I go back and clean it again with vinegar. Which is what I did on Monday. I did that because dh promised that the week I was out of town with ds he was going to clean the kitchen "top to bottom" with bleach and there would be plenty of time for the smell and everything else to fade by the time we got home. My kitchen was a pigstye when I came back. He managed to throw away or misplace everything I use regularly without cleaning a single thing... All the dishes were dirty with food crusted to them and my kitchen floor was so sticky and disgusting I had to wear shoes in there (and i truly hate wearing shoes in my home and avoid it as much as possible). Idk what he thinks he can do in that kitchen that I haven't already done a dozen times to make this phantom odor disappear.
