I giggled at the irony of people creating a Facebook event to leave Facebook. But I don't get all the hatred between parties. We're all people, and most of us are just trying to do what we believe is right. There are the loud few on both sides who are dangerous and scary, but I wish we could stop painting everyone as either a racist Rep or a communist Dem. I think both sides could meet in the middle with a lot of policies and everyone would be safer, happier, and more equal.

I think it's hilarious that the trumpers are so butthurt, they're all leaving Facebook and Twitter for Parler. Apparently, they got cranky because of all the fact checking and needed a place to spread misinformation about the election. It's like the Breitbart version of social media. Maybe it'll make it easier for the FBI to track white domestic terrorists.

When one spends the last six months making hateful, false posts about one man on Facebook, then goes into high gear with the hate and anger when that man wins don’t expect that ‘no matter our political views we’re still friends’ BS to hold water with me.

The hate and vitriol on facebook has me flying off the handle. For almost four years I've been mostly quiet and scrolled past friends and family regurgitating party BS. Today I let go. I'm saying what I think, debunking all the BS lies that the Cheeto Campaign put out, and then saying to give it a chance. A very close family member just posted a meme about being an idiot if you voted for Biden. I spent 20 minutes telling her what I think. I suppose our get-together for dinner tomorrow may be cancelled. And I'm a self-imposed facebook timeout.

I rarely post on facebook. I'm basically on there because my boss of my side hustle communicates exclusively through a group on there. But for fun, I posted a picture of me voting dressed liked a super hero. It has gotten almost 200 likes, dozens of comments and several reposts! I suddenly understand what people are getting out of constantly posting selfies. This definitely could be addictive.

I just think it's so ironic that my parents who used to scream that the internet was evil, Facebook was spyware, and being on my phone too much would rot my brain are now the same parents calling multiple times in a row when I don't answer and complaining that I quit Facebook. SMH.

My quote "but I also think the idea that age confers wisdom when every boomer I know posting racist memes on Facebook kind of bucks that trend." That's an observation. Not a value judgment. I didn't even call these people racist, just said that they were posting racist memes, which they are. Comparing that to calling Mexicans lazy, man, I hope you didn't pull any muscles making that reach, because those two things are NOTHING like each other. So no, it's not problematic. If every Mexican I knew didn't get up until after noon and I said so, again, that's an observation. Saying "every Mexican I know is lazy" is a judgment. Do you really need that difference spelled out for you?

I think it's time we start dismantling the idea that age=wisdom. I know boomers whose wisdom wouldn't fill their shoes, and my zoomer kid sister has this bizarre wisdom way beyond her years, possibly because she is neurodivergent and has experienced a lot in her young years. I hate this weird youth fetishizing culture we have where everybody wants to stay young forever, but I also think the idea that age confers wisdom when every boomer I know posting racist memes on Facebook kind of bucks that trend. I don't think judging people off characteristics like age, sex, race, gender etc. is better when we're making a positive value judgment. Just look at the two guys running for president while Obama was considered too young lol. Not that he was perfect, but he's a damn sight better than what we're facing now.

My husband, who is an emergency medicine doctor, was trying to explain why my brother should wear a mask, and my idiot brother would rather believe Facebook memes than the opinion of someone who is highly educated and actually knows how to read research. Any kind of scientific thinking is now political apparently. How the hell did we get here? I'm terrified for the future.

Work

There's a lady at my job that just had mad crazy vibes. Everyone was like, she's fine! And they all became friends with her. She has alienated herself from everyone except one person. She's a giant bag of drama. She's lobbed bogus complaints to management about every one of her friends, and even cussed one out over Facebook messenger. This is why I avoid work friends outside of work.
