My MIL was a kindergarten teacher about 20 years ago. She taught for about 15 years and then went on disability because it was "too stressful" for her bipolar disorder to handle. Now she shares all these memes on FB about how teaching is the hardest job, etc. and how "regular people" should switch jobs with teachers to see how hard it is. I had to respond and I said "Yeah, and teachers would see what it's like to have to do QC and prepare for audits and deal with annoying software that's complicated and finicky and all the other stuff that "regular people" have to deal with at their jobs". Geez, I know teaching is a tough job, but it's not like it's the only job that's tough.

Yes, he has bipolar disorder. He manages it pretty well with meds and he does function well enough to work and all that, but when he is on vacation, he just absolutely loves to sleep. So I suppose it's sort of a combination of the lack of motivation to do anything and his love for sleeping in general that makes him do it on vacation. I hate sleeping. I feel like I'm wasting my day.

I'm a 46 year old married woman. I feel like I'm going crazy sometimes. Not attracted to dh anymore and haven't been for a long time. But we've been talking about our marriage. Been married almost 27 years. Fwb has me wanting him more and more. I have no job, but we're doing ok financially. Have no health insurance though. Had an interview last week. I really want the job, but I'd no longer be able to text with fwb in daytime. Grown dd and me are estranged because of her drinking. I've started drinking a bit here and there. I'm going to stop because I'm worried about weight gain. Ugh. I don't know. I'm a picses and I know we tend to be kind of bipolar.

In response to all the "nervous breakdowns caused by exs" stuff. It's not that the ex caused the breakdown, it's looked at more like a catalyst to something that was pre-existing. My mom has bipolar disorder with hallucinations, I've been helping her breakdowns/episodes with all my family since i was a small child. Typically, after large stressors, my mom would have an episode. She was a single mom, she had a few relationships over the course of my childhood. After every break up, my mom has had an episode that lasts 4-6 months. She has had them for other reasons too. She goes through a really high manic episode with hearing voices, then gets so depressed that she often tries to attempt suicide. It's really not about the ex, it's just a large life stressor that some people with disabilities struggle to handle. My mom has a very severe disability has been hospitalized at least 30 times since her diagnosis at 21, andwas never able to collect disability from it. We live in California too.

I left DH last December, he was bipolar with issues with my dog. Friends are trying to set me up on dates and I am just not ready. I still have some stuff at the house where he is. Not that that has anything to do with it, I just don't feel ready to date, don't trust men, and doggie and I are fine by ourselves!

Your Eeyore sounds a lot like my ex-Eeyore. Same behavior, to a tee. He definitely used it to manipulate me and control me. He'd act mad for no reason, would answer abruptly to questions, act passive aggressive and pull bullshit moves, like not come home for supper and act like he forgot I was making a special meal. He'd spend money we didn't have, pick fights over stupid stuff, one time when I was studying for a big exam he kicked my study materials all over the floor (I used to study on my stomach on the living room floor). He'd say really mean things to me about how I'd never finish school, etc etc, that I was a loser, etc. It was the BEST thing ever to move out and not have to deal with his bipolar crap anymore.

My DH has bipolar disorder and when he is depressed, he is just exactly like you said--Eeyore. He sleeps all day, mopes around, is pessimistic about everything, and whines about how nobody likes him and his job sucks and his life sucks, etc. It really is a drain. I try to just get space from him and go do my own thing and that usually works, but when he gets "clingy", it's hard.

I'm still married to him because I think, on some level, I don't think I could ever get anyone else to marry me. He didn't always used to be like this. He used to be really ambitious and would get a bunch of stuff done in his spare time. It's only been really the last 3 or 4 years that he's started getting bad--he was diagnosed as bipolar and that depressed him, he got a different job and now he hates it, and I honestly think he needs some kind of therapy to deal with his issues. I just miss the way he used to be. He used to help a lot more and when I'd go out of town, he'd clean the house for me so it'd be clean when I got home. I've been considering divorce for a few years now, but it's only been really recently that he's been hinting at quitting his job entirely once I get a job after graduating and I'm pretty sure he won't get any more ambitious if he has absolutely nothing to do all day.

My DH is actually getting treatment for his bipolar and he seems like he really wants to control it as much as he can, but for instance, yesterday I was driving us back from the store and apparently I pulled in too close to the fence and he had a little temper tantrum about how bad of a driver I was (I didn't hit the fence or anything else). He apologized and didn't get really violent, but sometimes he still does have emotional outbursts that are hard for most people to understand. He has made an effort to tell me all the time that he is not directing things at me; he's just trying to express himself in general. I don't know...he's just a really difficult person to understand sometimes, so I get why my family thinks I'm nuts for being with him. Most of the time he's great, but yeah...he can be a bit of a handful sometimes.
