I've been a nurse for almost twenty years. In July, I decided to step away from direct patient care and transitioned into an administrative role. I made the right decision. I think the medical community is about to lose a lot of caregivers. There's no glory in being a sacrificial lamb, and that's how a lot of my medical friends and family are feeling. Covid has brought a lot of ugly truths to light; the ugliest being that many hospitals are still mainly focused on the bottom line, not human lives.

I work with a nurse who is an attention whore, and covid has been her time to shine. What's funny is that she doesn't even do direct patient care anymore, but her 1600 Facebook friends don't realize that and are eating her bullshit up like crazy.

A family member of mine is selling some things on her Instagram an considers herself a social media influencer. She's a SAHM and she's making a big effort to help financially, so I'm hoping she does well. But most of the time I can't watch her stories because they're sometimes embarrassing. Recently she went on a rant about this whole virus situation and how she refuses to wear a mask and how she thinks it's all just ridiculous and the media, stores and public are making too big of a deal out of it. (she's also an anitvaxer). I really wish she personally knew a doctor or nurse that could give her a better picture of the reality of the situation. One of my neighbors told me 3 floors of the hospital she works at is dedicated to the covid patients. Yes, it's inconvenient what we're all going through to protect ourselves and others, but this is no joke. We have no choice but to follow protocol. I don't dare say that to her though because all hell will break loose.

In my house it’s mil (RN,with asthma), fil, sil31(with restrictive lung disease), me (immunocompromised), and ds 7. Sil27 Lives in her dads condo has 5 kids, is an LPN and has been picking up every shift she can anywhere offering hours because of COVID19. SIL27 had a scare on Sunday that she has it and that’s when it came out how closely she has been working with the positive patients. Then she came over Tuesday with all of her kids. And mil is furious that no one was happy she was there. She’s a nurse and she refuses to take this thing seriously. I spent 2 days in the icu because no one cares and all of sil27’s kids were over when they had noroviris I don’t want them over here coughing on things if there’s a possibility they’ve got it. Every time those kids are over someone ends up with a cold, because one of them is always sick. I’m tired of mil compromising my health because sil refuses to pay someone to watch these kids. Especially now with something so dangerous going around

I've never been so angry at boomers. I'm a nurse and I'm just totally, thoroughly exhausted from having to explain over and over that the virus is real. REALLY real. Even if you are asymptomatic, you can still infect hundreds of people. No, sir, you should not bring in your 94 year old mother because she's tired of being cooped up and wants to go on an outing. I know gen z is dumb too, but I'm totally convinced that boomers are going to cause our extinction.

It's the same as 911. Everybody was thanking the cops, firefighters/EMTs, and military. Now it's the MDs and nurses.

I'm not trying to downplay the seriousness of coronavirus, but I'm so sick of reading the same crap on Fb. We get it, medical personnel /grocery store employees/truck drivers are heroes. I don't need any more advice from some random nurse or friend of a friend that works in a hospital on what to do and not do. I don't need anymore ideas on how to entertain my family. My feed is the same ole shit every day!

All essential workers are important, yes, but if could stop putting supermarket cashiers at the same level as doctors and nurses, that would be great.

I'm a scheduler at a dermatology office and you wouldn't believe the ridiculous calls we've been getting about this virus. A guy called yesterday, requesting statistical data on the coronavirus. I told him I don't have that info, but if he could tell me the name of his doctor here, I could get him to the nurses to discuss his own personal risk. Nope. He wanted "hard stats about this thing." I'm a fucking scheduler. I don't have that. He became belligerent and kept me on the phone for several minutes before I finally hung up on him. Fucking loonies. Use the Google machine that lives inside your phone, asshole!!!

I could never count on my mom when there was medical issues as a kid. I had really severe dandruff and was given a prescription, although it cost $10 my mom said she couldn't afford it (could afford to buy her boyfriend shoes though)and that I had to use my allowance to get it. I bought my own medicine at 14 until I moved out. I had pain in my foot and tearfully told my mom who told me just to go to school, it got so bad that I was sent to the nurse who told me I had a bunion. I got home and my brother saw my foot and we iced it. My mom asked me why I didn't tell her and my brother got mad and said that I did. I had throat infections, bought my own medicine and argued so many times (with a fever) that I was sick. Now whenever my mom complains about her minor aches and pains, I just give scant sympathy and leave it at that.
