As a fellow empath, I sympathize with you; however, consider what it must be like to not be able to turn off the TV, because you're a black person, and what's happening is real life, every day. It's a privilege to be able to turn off the TV and ignore police brutality. It's a privilege to be able to step away and ignore what is happening.

I just unfriended my cousin over the protests happening in my city tonight, which are on the news. Any time police violence is a big story I can count on him to post things that are total dog-whistle racism. I've always kept my mouth shut about it. Tonight he posted three times about violent protesters. I told him that I wish he was half as outraged when a black man is killed by police in broad daylight, and it went downhill from there. I ended up deleting my post so his mother doesn't end up reading it, and I unfriended him. I used to babysit him when he was a kid. I just watched the news from downtown and saw a Starbucks going up in flames. I don't care.

Also, can we talk about the fact that unarmed black teenagers keep getting shot and yet a bunch of assholes with GUNS just forced their way into a state building waving Nazi propaganda and the police were just like, "Yeah, that's fine."

I know we're not allowed to talk about what other cultures eat because if we do we are filthy racists who need to be burned on pyres, but I have to say I'm pretty glad to hear parts of China are talking about banning dog meat. It may be cultural conditioning but dogs are pretty sweet animals, it makes me sad to think of animals being eaten that regularly die for us or put themselves at grave risk as police dogs, rescue dogs, bomb and drug sniffing dogs, that help people who have disabilities and require assistance, and that are the only companion for many lonely people (sad as that is.) I know they all feel the same pain (I don't eat them either) but I think it's natural to have a connection to an animal that evolved so closely with us, hunted with us and has lived in our just outside our homes for so long.

It is legally considered assault to point a gun at someone. You can get arrested for it. If he is pointing a gun at you call the police.

Not a conspiracy nut or a religious loon but I do think it's important that we are aware that global governments tend to use events like this to increase their totalitarian powers. We saw it after 9/11 too. There have already been some insanely invasive and ridiculous bills put on the table. We are far too casual about giving our power away for shiny new technology items. I'm all for police and even army enforcing lockdown IF IT NEEDS TO BE DONE, but those bills need to be repealed as soon as we're done with this virus, and not left to sneakily erode our freedoms away.

UK just got locked down...one excursion a day for "exercise" (thank god, don't fancy not being able to walk my dog) and essential shop and work visits only...I'm assuming by work our PM means key workers like NHS, police, plus factory and retail workers. This is some scary fucking shit, and I say that as an introvert who hates leaving my house, now all of a sudden I feel totally claustrophobic. Keep safe everyone.

Parents in my entitled town are furious that the police told their kids to leave the park and go home. The parks are CLOSED. We've been told to isolate. One parent said her kids don't think the restrictions apply to them, and she can't keep them home.

First, what do you mean by he attempted to damage your vehicle? Second (this is coming from someone who dealt with a lot from my ex, who's a LEO), document EVERYTHING. Like get a notebook right now, and start writing down everything that's happened/is happening with dates and times. Take pics and video that you narrate when you see him. If you definitely see a pattern of harassment, take this to his superiors. Not sure where you live, but that can be anything from Chief of Police to Internal Affairs of his department. In our area we even have a department within the Prosecutor's Office that deals with inappropriate behavior from officers.
