About technology - it's completely logical. This action, therefore that result. Always. Machines don't just go off on their own and do things.

As a 21 year old I don't make presumptions on older people's (most notably coworkers) understanding of technology until I witness them in action.

Probably written by someone in their 20s/30s who grew up with technology.

I'm 34 and really don't understand the current technology we have but I have tried, I really have. I just don't get it. I can't even figure out how to install an app on my smart phone. I have a smart phone and never, ever use the internet function on it but not because I can't figure how the internet, I can figure that out, it's just I'm slow at typing on a smart phone versus a laptop and my phone doesn't have the qwerty feature which is annoying. No, I'm not trying to come across as an imbecile but I just can't seem to grasp how current technology works. I know how to download pics onto my computer, email stuff, how to start up a computer, clear history, pretty much basic computer stuff. But everything else is foreign to me.

I have to say that often younger people look at my age and assume that I don't know how to use a computer. Really? I'm female. I've been using one since 1980. It was not like we have now but it was adequate for what I needed to run my business. I now use the latest and upgrade every couple of years. I know how to use both a Mac and PC. I am proficient online and with various software. I install my own software and set up hardware. I know how to troubleshoot common problems. Since 1980 I have only once had to call in a professional. I just want to smack people who assume I'm not current with technology

Technology is not hard for older people to understand. That's a ridiculous statement to make! It's only hard if you close your mind off to it and refuse to learn. Do you have a brain? Then you can learn. Please don't perpetuate the "old and doddering" mentality! Sheesh.

If you start telling yourself in your 50's that you can't understand something, you're going to have a hell of a problem when you get to age 65 or older and have to figure out Medicare, hospital and doctor issues, health issues, and social security. All of those are intricate problems. It's important to keep an open mind and keep learning till you die. That could be when you're in your 90's, and there's going to be a lot more technology required for survival till you end up on the wrong side of the grass.

I'm in my 70s and have never had a problem understanding technology. Please don't disparage older people. If you don't understand technology, it's probably because you haven't taken the time to learn it.

Technology is hard for older people to understand. I'm 55 and still use a flip phone. I'm scared to upgrade in fear of having to learn how to use a iPhone or smartphone. I can't even master an ipad. Some of us have trouble learning new stuff so cut us some slack and be a little understanding.

I am feeling so stabby today. I am trying to deal with the university where I'm going to be a student this fall. I have to pay my tuition deposit and the stupid website isn't working. I wish I could just friggin' pay it over the phone or something. It's one of those days where I just plain HATE technology.
