I'm a former greyhound owner myself. Was happy to see that there's another lover of greyhounds on this forum. They are simply the most wonderful dogs. I miss my two every day.

My birthday is coming up. DH and his mother have planned a camping trip "for my birthday". I was never once asked if I wanted to go camping for my birthday. The campground they've planned for is downstate. Down. State. WTF? Why would I go toward the city to go camping? People come HERE to go camping. And we have three dogs that we will have to have on leashes or in crates the entire time. And hey guys, guess what? It's fucking September. We live in a northern climate. We don't have a camper. We will be TENT camping in 45-50 degree temps with three dogs at a downstate campground. It sounds like pure hell. I'm so disappointed that DH would think this is something I want to do. Doesn't he know me at all? But it's all planned and paid for. And I don't want to be ungrateful. I'm dreading this. I think I'm more sad than anything. I can't believe THIS is the trip he planned for ME. It's like he doesn't even know me. Suck. Boo.

I based on what I read here and from the pet owners around me it seems a majority of dog owners have very different standards of taking care of their dog from how I was taught when I had a dog. She got 2 walks in a park daily. One in the morning and one after dinner. On days my mom worked her morning walk was until she pooped, my moms days off her walks were at least an hour. In the evening her walks were at least an hour and if the weather was good we would walk the mile to the dog park. And yeah, she could wait for a small drive to get to the park if we didn't want to walk there. We also took her to different parks now and then for a change in smells. The only times her walks were short and didn't wind up at a park were if it was pouring out and then we'd take her around the block until she pooped in someone's strip of grass between the sidewalk and street and we'd pick it up and take her home. Yes, we lived in a house with a small yard and sometimes we would put her on a tether to hangout outside for a while but that never replaced her walks because she needed her exercise. And if she happened to poop in our yard we picked it up as soon as we saw it. In the housing area we live in now roughly 80% of the families have dogs I see maybe 3 or 4 people walking their dogs, the rest just stick them on a leash that lets them wander up to 10 feet from the door. Of the handful of people I see walking their dogs I only see one of them on a daily basis. And it seems the people that stick their dogs on a tether might pick up the poop once a week from the lawns that they share with 3 other families in that building. In the 5 years I've lived here I have never seen someone walking their dog around the neighborhood in the winter time. To me that's no way for a dog to live. No wonder veterinarians say some pets suffer from depression if this is how a majority of dog owners treat their dogs... I would be depressed too if I never went more than 10 feet outside my house.

It's not little dogs that bother me, it's the masses of idiots who buy them and think they don't need training cos they are only little, and then the dogs turn into ill-raised, yappy hellions. For me though, I only keep greyhounds and bully breeds because they are what the rescues are full of and are some of the hardest to rehome.

I agree that dogs shouldn't be allowed to poop on people's lawns. And I think it's gross when they poop on sidewalks. But, they have to poop somewhere! And if you live in an apartment in a residential area, the dog needs to be walked. And the "parkway" or that strip of grass between sidewalk and road, is the only choice left! I see no problems letting the dog poop there provided you pick up after him or her.

I have a Chihuahua and she is super friendly and sweet. She loves people. She does do the shaking thing a little, but only when she's cold or upset. I am not a big fan of bulldogs, except Frenchies. I love those!

I think most dogs are adorable, but as far as dog breedism goes, yeah, I'm a little guilty of disliking pretty much all Chihuahuas. I've only met a handful of them that I found to be truly sweet and the way they shiver all the time kind of freaks me out. But I'm sure their owners love them to pieces. I guess it's the same with people who adore their pugs.

Let me rephrase...your dog shouldn't be on private property. If it's not actually private property and it's just some crazy bitch claiming it is, that's different. But if people don't have fences you still shouldn't be letting your dog wandering all over people's lawns, keep the dog on leash AND under control, and BTW one or the other isn't enough, it needs to be both. And yes, I do have dogs but I know how to control them. People who don't give the rest of us a bad name.

In my city, the strip of grass that is between the sidewalk and street are the property owner's responsibility. The home owner has to maintain that little strip of grass, mow it, make sure the grass is getting watered and whathaveyou. I don't appreciate other people letting their nasty dogs shit on ANY of my grass regardless if you're picking up the crap or not. The shit germs, pee and shit particles are still there. It's offensive to watch someone let their pet use your grass as their toilet even if they have a bag with them to pick up their dog's shit.

My neighbor used to let her dogs poop in my yard every day. At 7am sharp, she would let them out, they would run across the street to my yard, poop and run home. She would pick it up if I said something. Finally one day I asked her (nicely) to stop letting her dogs poop in my yard. She stopped for about a week. Then it started up again. I asked her again nicely. It stopped for a week. Then she came over to ask me something, her dogs followed her, I came to the door right when one of dogs was started to poop in my yard. Instead of stopping her dog, she laughed and said "Oh look, hes pooping in your yard again!" I went completely OFF on her. I called her a few choice names , then told told to take her shitting dogs and get off my property and never come back. That was 10 years ago. We still arent speaking. But guess what? Her dogs don't poop in my yard anymore.
