My SD used to work for the USPS and would get pissed at me/us whenever we'd complain about it. But what are we supposed to do when things like this happen? One aunt sent me a box of yearbooks, books and photo albums of mine from hs, marked "Media Mail" which is cheaper. USPS inexplicably sent it back to her, but not quickly - it took 30 days total before I got it. Another aunt sent homemade jelly, very carefully packed/cushioned and marked Fragile. Box arrived smashed and leaking. Another relative paid $15 for 2-Day Priority Mail - I didn't get it for 8 days. I mean come on, what are we paying for???

I live in Texas. Seriously, don't be proud of us. There are still confederate monuments all over the place, including the so-called "liberal" city of Austin. The state just now got around to admitting that maybe slavery had something to do with the civil war, and so decided to include it in textbooks. And by just now got around to it, I mean like two weeks ago. But those same textbooks still challenge evolution, 'cause let's not get crazy or anything. When I moved here 20 years ago, there were towns that still had businesses displaying "Whites Only" signs. And it's not like people were so outraged they forced them to take them down. There are places that still have segregated proms. I've found that the people who think Texas isn't so ass backwards are usually people who have never lived anywhere else. Or have never lived outside of the south.

Urgh. Again, here I go I feel like I'm throwing people under the bus. If you run the company and your wife does the books, hows about the two of you TALK to each other on occasion? I've asked her for this info so many times it's crazy. Finally, I talk to him, right? He as no clue what I'm talking about. She kept telling me she had to talk to him about it and get back with me. Well, she never did. It's been months and I have no answers. And now, I can just imagine the conversation THEY'RE gonna have. Blergh. Blech.

My coworker is married with young children. She's very bubbly, always laughing and joking around and is really fun. She always talks about her DH and kids. But something weird - I've never seen a happily married woman talk about other men as much as she does. Coworkers, vendors we work with, clients...always commenting on how hot they are, and how we need more hot guys in our office. Last week we were all talking about current books we're reading, and she said she only reads smutty books about cheating wives and husbands, She's not dumb - she has multiple degrees. I just find this odd and kind of off-putting.

My confession is that I love designing excel spreadsheets. Fricking love it. It's so fun. I wish there was a job where that's all I had to do. I love summing across sheets and linking different workbooks together. I love it all. It's like a giant grid calculator and it can do anything. It's my favorite part of my job.

Going through stuff my kids left in my house when they moved and I found a big stack of hardcover Harry Potter books. Every single one of them is there. And I'm seriously thinking of starting at the beginning and just reading all of them. Either that, or I might get the Song of Ice and Fire books and just devour them all. Real books, made of paper.

The library in our new town doesn't have self-check kiosks like our old one did. This means I have to deal with chatty librarians seeing which books I'm getting and providing commentary on them. I really, really don't need that. I want my self-check library kiosks back, dammit.

Because they are exposed to misogyny everywhere.School dress codes are designed to keep girls from distracting boys. So boys aren't expected to control themselves, but girls are told that they are responsible for boys behavior. If a boy grabs a girl, he must like her. People use phases such as, "Throw like a girl," or "Cry like a little girl," all the time. Or people say, "Boys will be boys," as a way to excuse bad behavior rather than punishing it. There have been literal books written about how misogyny is woven into society. You can teach your children whatever you want at home, but society is teaching them something totally different.

The big GoFundMe scandal that's in the news is in my area. Unreal! They made a big to-do about how they were going to help this man, but then spent all the money on themselves. What kills me is that I gave them the benefit of the doubt when they said they would open their books and have a forensic analysis of the money, and how dare people accuse them of spending it all! Well... Thank goodness GFM is stepping up and guaranteeing the money. I hope those two go to jail for a long, long time.
