I have a problem with binge/emotional overeating, and have had it most of my life, so I absolutely cannot keep snacks in the house. I have no discipline. I'll graze and eat an entire box of snack cakes in an entire day. I can eat an entire bag of lays potato chips in one day. I'll eat until I feel sick, and then continue to eat. The result is that I feel sluggish and miserable and full. Whenever I try to lose weight, the only time I eat snacks is when I'm in the check out line. I'll get a small candy bar or small bag of chips, and that'll be it for a while. I never buy snack foods in bulk anymore.

My dh is having some late night anxiety, but he can't figure out the source. I have always had severe anxiety/manic depressive episodes, but due to my childhood emotional trauma I've been really good at blocking it and identifying and avoiding my triggers. I don't really know how to help him. Any tips?

I am so ridiculously vain in the sense that I'm obsessed with ageing and comparing myself to other people my age and whether i look better and worse than them, and I can also be a bit shallow with men...no matter how good a person they are, if I'm not attracted physically I have no interest no matter how great of a person they are, and given that I'm also fussy that literally leaves me in no man's land. I'm an absolute mess and have no idea how to fix it. It's not as if I was ever the hottest person on the planet either, I just about pass as "pretty" or "cute." I'm also totally emotionally immature, and IDK why I'm like this but I absolutely hate myself and I'm terrified I'm going to be miserable forever. I keep hearing the older you get the less you give a fuck what others think. Can that please happen to me yesterday?

My mom had a breakdown again. It was smaller compared to last time, but I still had an emotional reaction. I told her not to yell at me and raised my voice. I was more reactive than I would have liked. I wish I didn't get triggered so much, but she immediately goes to worst case scenarios and blows things out of proportion. This issue was regarding housing and how my brother couldn't help her with something, she immediately thought she would be homeless if she didn't turn it in. She has an undiagnosed mental illness and its hard to talk sense since life has been a struggle. I need to just be firm, give her facts and not be reactive. I almost cried talking to her. Again, did not think our call would get me triggered. Ugh, so much healing I need to do around my family. I wish my brother would just help her, but I get he's really tired and triggered, too.

Thanks hanginin, and everyone! DH and I are already huge softies when it comes to animals, and since we were already emotional with so many people dying (my sister was the first of several this year!), we didn't stand a chance. Now comes the responsible part. Time to get them to the vet for a senior wellness exam, and find a healthier dry food than the easy supermarket stuff we have been going with, and figuring out a long term litter disposal situation. Anyone know of a diaper genie, but for cats? I would really like something that I can scoop clumps of litter into a biodegrable bag for a week (that contains the smell!), and then use the same bag to dump all the litter in at the end of the week (and then trash the bag and start over).

Call me bitchy, but it literally takes 15 seconds to send someone a nice text, which is better than nothing. Nobody is THAT busy or "emotionally full".

I think I might be one of those friends who isn't being a good friend. In the past 3 months, I've had several people reach out to me and I never returned their message. I feel a little bad about it, but I don't have any extra room. I'm already emotionally taking care of DH, my dad, and my two best friends (and they are taking care of me too, but it is tiring for all of us). On top of that, I've lost two family members and one friend in the last 6 months, and have 4 others who have been in the hospital (two of whom might not come back out). So if someone other than my BFFs call and leave a message about how they miss human contact, I just can't rally enough to reach back to them. I'm sorry that they are lonely or bored, but I'm emotionally full. I think it is great idea to find others who also feel out of contact and need support to begin a new group of people who support each other.

I am not an emotional person by force of habit. I find emotions embarrassing and I don't like to make a spectacle of myself. But lately I just cry at the drop of a hat. I don't understand.

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm brown. So brown that I've been called the "n" word many times throughout my life since I was a child. My husband is white. The first time I met his family, I heard the same question over and over and over: "Is that a tan, or is that your natural skin color?" Is was extremely uncomfortable for me. Oh and also, my (white) ex is a cop. Without asking questions, he jumped into the middle of an altercation and beat the ever-loving shit out of an innocent black woman who was trying to break up a fight. She has permanent injuries. He got off. His department settled with the woman and it was swept under the rug. IT WAS NOT IN THE NEWS - I randomly came across the story in an independent law journal. So yes I HATE what's happening bc it affects me on many levels. I just can't take it from 7am to midnight and beyond every day. It emotionally breaks me.

There is a huge protest happening right now in my city. Tear gas was fired. It's on the verge of a riot. As scary as it is, I'm glad to see this many people in my Republican town, in the state that spawned Pence, a town that voted for and adores Trump, rioting over the murder of a black man. Hundreds of people are blocking traffic, chanting black lives matter. Then, my dad called to say it's like the 60s and reminded me that revolution is how change happens. I'm an emotional, blubbering mess.
