I recently picked up a temp job cleaning homes. Very interesting. I was scheduled for 3 hours at one home, to clean LR, DR, kitchen and one bathroom. I've never seen a more pristine home in my life. What I swept up in total was less than 1/4 of what comes out of my own kitchen. No dust anywhere. Glass shower doors as sparkling as the day they were installed (the house is 60 years old). Not even one speck of toothpaste in the sink. Not sure why they need a cleaner, but whatever. Then I had 2 hours at a home of "busy professionals who have no time to clean." The husband was home and sat on the couch the whole time, watching TV. My favorite client is actually a massive hoarder. I love her so much that I've stayed extra time at no charge because I know she needs the help :)

Having a guest is fine. Giving someone a key to your home is not okay. That person could rob you, for all you know. She's not on the lease. She could accidently start a fire in the kitchen or leave the water running and cause a flood and have zero legal obligation to fix it. Fuck that. Set some boundaries. Either she pays rent or she's there less.

I me too'ed, omg'ed and hugged this, because my DH does the same kind of shit with me. Earlier this year he decided to have a fancy water filtration system added to the kitchen sink. In the summer I brought up a case of water I'd had in the basement. Sometimes it's nice to have a bottle on the go. He got pretty angry, saying he'd spent all this money on the system so we shouldn't waste money on water bottles anymore. (BTW, I pay for all of the groceries out of my money and a case is only $3.) BUT THEN some of his friends stopped by on their way through town, and as they were leaving, they asked if we had any water. He made a big production of looking for some, and then said, "Sorry, she doesn't have any water in the house." wtf man

One of my favorite YouTubers died. Grandpa Kitchen is one of the best channels ever. He made massive amounts of food outside, over a fire. It's just love and joy and feeding hungry orphans. I hope his family keeps the channel going.

I did exactly that. Got sick of my old kitchen. Dh was a dick about it. Hired a contractor and handled it myself. No regrets.

I don’t know about dogs, just about our own dog. But two ideas - 1) we taught our dog to go to her “place” - I don’t know where that is and sometimes she doesn’t also lol, but it means out of the way and she usually leaves and goes under a table. We say it to her when she starts getting under foot and it’s dangerous, usually in the kitchen. 2) our dog usually sleeps in her bed but I bought a second bed for a diff room, that might help about tripping? Is she guarding you guys or new doors are closed now? Good luck

All I want is a nice kitchen. Is that too much to ask?? Ours has old appliances, industrial carpet on the floor (!), no counter space, and outdated cabinets. It would probably cost a good $20K to do it, but we can afford it. DH just doesn't want to do it because he thinks it's a waste of money. I'm really tempted to just call a contractor and get a quote so he'll realize I'm dead serious about this.

I wish I spoke dog. A few months ago, my dog decided to start sleeping in the worst places at night. Places where we can't help but trip on him. Right in front of the bedroom door. In the center of the darkest hallway in the house. Right in the middle of the path that leads to the kitchen. And he's started standing right behind our feet, so if we turn around, we immediately trip over him. We literally trip over him now at least twice a day. I love him but WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, DOGGY. He never did this before. I have no idea how to break him of it. We feel terrible every time we trip over him and he looks at us like we're murderers.

So far this year I've painted my living room, planted a garden, fixed a cabinet door, changed out exterior spotlights, put on new switchplates in the living/dining room and caulked a gap in my kitchen. I am really not handy at all and while these are small things I'm happy that I've given them a try.
